Do I Wake from Nap?
« on: February 09, 2013, 14:27:15 pm »
Hi

I have a 16 week old and am in the process of implementing EASY having sought out a solution to night waking which I'm 90% sure is due to reliance on a dummy.  This is day three of the new routine and dummy withdrawal so we're exhausted and desperately trying to stick with it.

This afternoon, I had trouble settling for nap having to adopt shush/pat throughout the first hour.  LO then slept soundly for 2nd hour.  I was panicking when the time hit 2 hours and wasn't sure if I should wake her up.  I eventually did.  Is this the correct approach when trying to establish a routine?  LO has slept so little over past few days and cried so much it broke my heart to wake her when she was so settled and sleeping so soundly.  I was hoping she would sleep for 1.5 hours but when she got to 2 hours I couldn't believe it!

Did I do the right thing??

that is a hard one. Generally speaking at this age you would wake from a 2 hour nap but if she is very OT then I would think there is some leeway i.e. maybe let her have 2.5.

How have things been?

I personally would let her sleep a little longer if you know she's OT, as it's so much harder for her to fall asleep and sleep soundly when she's OT.  It's really a day by day judgement thing though - probably once she's a bit more settled I would wake her at the regular times during the day (that's what I did with my LO anyway).
