What to do when AM naps runs into the afternoon?
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:48:39 am »
Hi!! I have a question, I hope you can help me!!

My LO (has always been a terrible napper, the 40 minute nap was a constant for us). This was until he turned 10 months and now (I have to say thankfully) he is all of a sudden taking this 2 hour naps (and although Im loving the Myself time, I have no idea what to do for his PM nap!!)

Here is what happened today (I have been having NW issues that Im solving at the moment due to him being OT)

Woke up at 8.30
Activity 3.30 (Fell asleep at 12)
Sleep 2 Hours (Woke at 2)
Tried to put him down at 5 and planned on waking at 40 min and then Bt at 8-8.30, he just wouldnt go down (tried until 5.30) I realized this just wasnt happening. Rushed his BT for 6.30 (so he would have 4.30 A). Didnt fall asleep until 7

I have no idea what to do when this happens!! Im sad that all my efforts of the last few days has been for nothing since now he is going to be OT again!!

What advice would you give me so that he doesnt become OT? Should I have stuck with the nap as far as 6-6.30? wake up and move BT?

I have read the 2-1 transition thread and I think its too early for him. On the other hand, he has never had so much day sleep as he is getting now with his 2 hour naps. I would love to do the long AM and Catnap the PM. But I just cant seem to get so much sleep into the day. My problem is the A times arent long enough (or the day isnt long enough?) for him to be tired enough to accept his second nap. Should I just force it on him?

Sigh!! Im confused!!

Thanks!!!!

You could try short am, long pm nap - eg if he had gone down at 12pm, wake him at 12:30 or 12:40 and then you should have time for a long nap about 3:30pm (or whatever A time suits him).  FWIW I've always had to cap the morning nap at 1:30 to get a decent pm nap if you're aiming for 2 good naps (before LO hit 2-1 a few weeks ago!)

Thanks!! Ill try that tomorrow!! Ill tell you how it goes!!

One question if I cut the AM nap and he takes a short PM should I bring BT earlier? Is there another solution for two short naps in order to avoid OT?

Thanks!!!

Yes I would probably bring BT 30mins early.
