13mo wont drink from her bottle anymore
« on: February 26, 2013, 22:49:01 pm »
Over the last few days DD won't drink milk from her bottle- she was only having one a, day but now she refuses to let me.feed her but won't drink herself. She just walks around.with it ::) she's spirited in nature so I think she just wants to be independent but IM concerned about her milk intake...

She has 4oz milk.in cereal
3 oz sippy throughout day
8 tbs yoghurt which I think is about 4 oz
1oz cheese
either custard or rice pudding to make Upto 14 oz dairy

Can I give more yoghurt rather than custard or rice pudding (due to sugar content)?

How can I get her to drink more from sippy

From 1 yo the minimum guidance of milk/dairy solids is 12oz so it looks like your LO is getting enough.
No harm in giving more yoghurt rather than custard or rice pudding - or make sugar free versions, or increase cheese with cheese sauces or cream cheese spread.

It seems many LOs are not keen to have their milk from a sippy.  Maybe try a straw (we had success here with the straw) or an open cup with a tiny bit of milk in, and keep giving a tiny bit each time she successfully drinks it.  The fun and challenge of trying something new can lead to drinking more with the open cup.

Well, the bottle feeding FAQ says this, but it's a guide, they are all guides.
The NHS guide says 300ml or half pint which is 10oz
http://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/food-and-health-tips/milk/
So I wouldn't worry about her overall dairy/milk intake, anything vastly different from the guides and yes it would be worth looking into but otherwise no problem.  You might find she has much more on one day (like if you make cheese on toast or cheese sauce on pasta) and less on another too (like tom sauce on pasta so no cheese), but if it balances out across a week then that fine.
