Long morning nap
« on: February 27, 2013, 18:06:58 pm »
Hi. My 6 1/2 month old has recently been having long morning naps and then will only have one quick catnap the afternoon if anything.  I know I shouldn't complain because up until recently his naps were short and inconsistent but I am wondering if I shouldbe waking him from his morning nap? Our typical day is like this

Up at 7am
8 am bf
9am solids
10am nap (2-21/2 hours on average sometimes almost 3 hours!)
1230 bf
115 ish solids
4 pm bf and sometimes a quick nap (20 - 45 mins) on the nursing pillow otherwise it is super hard to get him to nap unless we are out but even then it is hit or miss
530 solids
700 bath,nurse and bed
Usually 2night feedings but often  hard to settle back down after the second one

I had posted a couple of weeks ago about 2hour cot parties and 430 ew those have gotten more under control. I am now wondering if I should cap his morning nap,is it too long?  Would that help his pm nap?

Thanks

Sorry you haven't had any replies yet - how are things going now?

Have you tried putting him down earlier than 4pm? I wonder if he's already OT by then, especially on the days he only naps 2hrs. The average A for this age is around 3 hours, so if he naps 10-12, I would be trying to get him down again around 3. Or do you think he's generally low sleep needs?

He definitely needs two naps at this age anyway, and for the next 3-4 months at least, so if you're really struggling to get him to have a pm nap, I would cap the morning nap to 2 hours, and try for another 3hrs or so later. What do you think?
