10 month old nap issues
« on: March 14, 2013, 12:01:30 pm »
Hi my LO is 10 months old and for the past 2 weeks we've had a 1.5 -2 hour am nap and pm nap 45 mins, I can't get him to extend this pm nap whether its in his cot or pushchair! He wakes up crying but happy in seconds! To top it off we've moved house and I think we're in the middle of a wonder week!
He's been doing well and Sttn but we are getting 5.30 WU cot parties and I'm thinking is this OT or just everything else going on!
He's due to start nursery in 5 weeks so I know it's all going to go to pot then as they tend to do an after lunch nap! So should I just go with it until then?
I've tried to get long pm nap after short am but he won't have it!!
Can someone give me words of wisdom!
I've read the naps gone wonky thread!
Zoe

Hi,
How's things? Still wonky? You are most likely starting the 2:1 nap transition. Could you post your routine and we can take a look.

Hi yes still wonky! It varies a bit but EAS is
WU 5.30 cot party till either cries then go in and rock back off till 6 at least or SS until 6.15-6.30
FF 6.45-7
Solids 8am
Snack 9.45
Nap 10-10.30 depending on WU I've pushed to 4 hours last couple of days
WU 11.30-12
Lunch 12.15
Ff but seems to be dropping this so offer it in sippy cup sometimes
Nap 3.30 ish
WU 4.15
Tea 4.30
Bath 6
Ff 6.30
BT 7

This morning not a peep till 5.50!

I know I prob need to cap am nap but as he's starting nursery :-( in a few weeks was thinking is it best to wait till then as lots will be changing?

it does not look too bad to me but I understand about now anting him up so early. I think you will need to cap that am nap tbh but yes maybe wait until he is settled at nursery.

Well I thought I'd wait lol but DS has other ideas last 2 days 40 min am naps so thought would try long pm but 40 min naps too!! Arghhhhh! Ended up rocking then asleep on my knee for another 45 mins as min put down wakes up screams to be picked up as soon as picked up sleeps!!
He does 3.45-4 hours A first thing easy so I tried 3.5 to pm nap as at 3 hours not tired at all...am I missing something or getting my times wrong?

I defo think he's in middle of wonder week, seems to have proper temper and walking holding one hand only!
Thanks

do you think it is discomfort at all??
Timings look ok to me - DD did 3.5 A after a 30-40 min nap. I would probably sit it out for a few more days to see if it is the WW before you change anything...as long as you can bear that!

I did wonder if teeth might be an issue as chewing like mad again, checked ears out at docs yesterday and all ok! He's very up and down last 2 days happy one min crying next, quite typical ww behaviour!  I'll ride it out, we have disruptive few days coming up with building work so naps will prob be in car or pushchair!
Thanks for your help :-)

Well something is definitely wonky, we've had naps of 40 mins each, BT refusal no NW as such but 5am one morning! I've been trying 45 min am nap then long pm nap but LO is fighting going down for pm nap now!! Yesterday we had 5am WU so I let him sleep the am nap as knew in pm builders would be in...he totally refused pm nap after 4 hours A time so gave up and did BT 6pm he'd been awake from 12 noon..was fearing the worst but not a peep till 6am so 12 hour night!
But today 45 min am nap but wouldn't go down until 4 hours A, so tried pm nap 3.5 hours wouldn't go down so 15 mins later finally asleep but woke after 30 mins wouldn't resettle OT i guess, so again early BT 6.30 by time he got to sleep!!
He's had pain meds for teeth before naps, formula or a snack so not hungry!!
One day will do long pm next day won't!! Seems far too interested in trying to talk, walk and generally get into everything to play!!
Arghhhhh I don't get it, hoping its wonder week mayhem!!

it sounds either developmental or teeth to me but if you are giving meds then it is more likely a regression of some sort. One thing I would say is that 45 mins is actually quite refreshing for a lo so you may find that he can do near to his usual A time after it. I guess you could try capping the am to 30 mins to rule out UT...
