Is there a 'funny' period when babies turn 1?!
« on: April 16, 2013, 21:19:05 pm »
Hi,
Lo turned 1 a fortnight ago. Since then, sleep has gone, well, frankly- weird!!! She has started contesting naps, crying & screaming at bt, waking in the night, and early wakening :( we are doing the same routine, but she is just all over the place.
She is teething (aren't they always?!) but it's controllable with herbal meds & paracetamol when had. She's very nearly walking unaided- so it very busy! I'm just wondering why???
When she wakes at night I leave her babble until she cries- then it's Obvious she's starving. She guzzles a 6oz bottle. She eats 3 good meals a day & snacks. As everything is all over the place with naps- no two days are the same easy wise :(
Please can someone help? I think maybe time to start a plan? Thanks xxxx

Hi,
It's 3:30am & we're wide awake!! I said I would 'leave her' tonight & not go in!! After half an hour she was soooo wide awake & crying- I had to. If I go in & feed her- she is asleep within 15 mins- if I don't its 1-2 hours. Obviously easier to feed as I'm up at 6 to go to work- but I know it's wrong :/
As I said eas is all over the place.yesterday she was up at ridiculous o'clock- but refused to go to nap-
Awake 5:20
Bottle  6:40
Breakfast 7:20
Tried nap at 9 -no way
Nap 10
Awake 11:20
Lunch 12
Nap 3:30
Awake 5:10
Bed 7:30
Asleep 8:00
She o/t for am nap.

She can last 4 hours A in the morning & can go longer in the pm. She is textbook & has a great nature but determination that is unreal.

You did chat to me re 2-1 transitions a few weeks ago- but I cannot find the thread :( if she is up at 5:20- 2 naps it the way, but if she's up at a good time- (after 7) then I would like her to do just the 1. I maybe think I just need to start again? I'm useless at being tired & I get sick. She seems to be the same as me too :(

We are also having problems with her as we use a sleep wrap (safe T wrap) We used this from 4/5 months due to her being so restless. She can now stand up- in the strap & pulls the mattress up behind her!!! It's hillarious to watch- but not good. We are going to have to start putting her down for naps without it- and will prob have to do pu/pd.
At the moment it feels as if we're doing nothing right.

She has a dummy- 2/3 of them in the cot-uses it to fall asleep the spits it out.
She is currently lying there on her back repeating her only word 'bird' !!! :(

...... Any help appreciated. Thanks again xxx

Sorry hun I've been flat out.

Here is the 2-1 thread. It's great!
Anyone want to talk about the 2-1 transition? Thread #24

I think you need to push that first A out more. Then you can either cap that nap at 30-45 mins or cap the pm one if you get a good am.

Definitely time to ditch the safe t sleep and either do shh/pat or PU/pd if you need too. You may find it's not an issue once you get A times right though and she is tired enough to sleep rather than muck around x

Thanks ladies- hope you didn't think I was rude Zacsmumme!!! I was desperate!!

Definitely agree on the sleepwrap- we're going to start tomorrow during day for naps. As its the weekend- I'll at least have help!

So- an am nap 4/5 hours after wu? Capped at 30/45min & then a pm nap of 1-2hours?

This is week 55 also- so wonder week!!
Thanks so much xx

:-* not at all Hun.

Yeah WW are pants. ... Just do your best to get through it!

I would try to watch her and see if you can se a window after 4 hrs that she seems tired and fussy. Then go for the nap. It's up to you if you want to do short am and lon pm or other way, but if you want short am then I would wake her after 1 sleep cycle, typically 45 mins. Then try the pm nap maybe 2.5-3 hrs later.

Anna, does this sound right between naps? - Z did long am so I'm not 100% on these timings?

Ok, shall go for that today! Ta!
I'm up- just had a night feed:( she is genuinely hungry- takes 5oz- (I don't give her more) I need to knock this I the head. Go cold turkey or do you think we wait & see how it goes after adjusting daytime?  Then tackle sleep wrap then night feed?
   All these questions...... !! Sorry
Flip- all these- I am a bad mummy !!! :(

Hope you're still enjoying the weather in nz?!! Xxx

Well, today woke at 7, in grumpy form due to a head cold. We pottered about & had our morning walk. Got home ready to give bottle & go for nap at 11. A friend arrived with baby to visit- so we stayed up a bit. She hadnt  yawned & was in good form- so I thought I'd give her lunch then bed.
Tried to put her to bed at 11:45- minus the strap- she screamed . Did pu/pd & she went utterly ballistic:( never seen her like that. I lifted her, waited til she stopped crying, put her down & she went again before she was even lying flat. I put the strap around her & she started to settle. Took 3 mins & she was asleep!!!!!
I know I'm going to have to do it with her- but because she is full of cold & I'm not well, it'll have to be when oh is here tonight to help out!!!
I'm hoping she does 1:30/2 hours now & then bed at 7. Lets see.......

Let me know what you think ladies......
Xxx

Hugs. Probably the change in routine, longer A plus ditching the strap may have been too much for her with a cold too YK.

How did the nap go?

At this age I think they understand a lot more so try to talk to her about removing the safe t sleep, NF etc when the time comes. At this age a NF isn't needed. But, it's up to you if you want to wean now or not ... It's only a problem when it's a problem to you ad/or herYK?

Good luck, my DD is textbook/angel and usually a fabulous sleeper but we had about 2 weeks of BT refusal and NWs during the wonder week you're in.  Eventually I went a bit "tough love" on her and she was back to normal within 2 days.  She's been great since then though :-)  Just have to say I had a quiet chuckle with the mental image of your DD standing up with the cot mattress attached to her back!  Glad you had a good day today, fingers crossed it continues.  I did find though that we tried one nap at around that age as I thought that was the problem and even though she napped fine and slept fine at night she got crankier and crankier and we eventually went back to 2 naps (short am, long pm) which has been fabulous.

Not so good!! Up at 1:40 for an hour, now up at 4- dh with her. Not happy crying & screaming. Don't know if it's ut or ot. I really thought after the day we had she would go all night? Just gave her meds for teeth.
Lo is an angel/textbook too- usually!!!! I'm ill with a bad chest infection & just don't know what to do anymore. There are so many thinks wrong :(
Thanks for all your help. Xx
