New, no routine and clueless
« on: May 17, 2013, 22:36:57 pm »
Hello everyone! I am new here and just recently learned about EASY. I haven't read any of the books but I'm waiting for it to be available from the library. I'm a first time mom and I have a 14 week old son. Since birth I feed him on demand, put down to nap whenever I think he is tired. Then I recently learn about EASY and I tried a routine for a week now except it got messed up again during mother's day holiday and a couple of travel days. Here is the routine that I tried on him, and during the first 2 days he actually did good on the nap but not on the feeding.
Wake up-varies. if he wakes up before 7 I usually put him on his swing and he sleeps until I wake him up around 8 to eat.
E-8am
A-8:30-10:00
S-10:00-12:00
E-12
A-12:30
S-2-4:00
E:4:00
A:4:30
S-6:00-6:30
E-6:30
Bath and bedtime starts after then usually asleep between 7:00-8:00

When schedule got messed up due to travel days, he stopped napping more than 1hour. He also don't sleep through the night yet since born. He wakes up between 10-11 and I feed him( I just recently learned about dream feed too) and wakes up 2 more times to feed.sometimes 3 and 5am. There are nights when he wakes up every hour just to fuss and and as soon as I got him and put him down on our bed,he falls back asleep so I put him back on his bed. We co-sleep(the arm reach type),his bed right beside our bed. I also exclusively pump but supplement formula at night as I don't produce that much. I am at the process of stopping breastfeeding right now because of a lot of reasons. I try feeding him more during the day but I think he got used to feeding on demand and he became a snacker. Any advice on what I can do different to change the night waking too much. I checked the faqs for sample easy routine but I am confused if I should try the 3mos or the 4mos routine since he's 3 1/2 mos now. He is a touchy baby but no major medical issues. He would sometimes throw up after feeding but I think because he tends to drink too much and too fast. I am just so tired from too much night waking and I am probably doing it wrong by feeding him everytime he cries. I appreciate all future helps. I think I will go crazy if this continues( I take medication for a little bit of depression).I'm sorry if I rambled all I said as english is not my first language. :)

Hi and welcome to BW!

What is the routine like right now, when things are not great? Is the A time still the same length but naps have shortened? How does he wake up from his naps? Is he happy and chatty or crying and looks like he didn't want to wake up?
I am not sure I understand about night times... Was it the case before that he had 2-3 NW and you fed them for each one? So what is the situation now? Is it still the same or is he waking up every hour at night? Are you offering a feed for each time he wakes up at night? Does he settle easily with a feed?
At his age and the fact that he is BF (even partly) it's still normal to have a DF and 2 more NF. My DS was FF by that point and we had 3NF till around 6m.
I am also not sure why you say he is a snacker - do you refer just to night time? Because during the day it seems like he is feeding great!

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get the full picture :).
