Adjusting EASY for early waking from nap
« on: May 18, 2013, 15:12:08 pm »
Today our day has looked like this:

E 7.45
A
S 8.45 ( but not asleep until 9.30)

E 10.00
A
S 11.00 (but not asleep until 11.30)

E 13 00
A
S 14 00

Awake at 14.30 couldn't re-settle
E 15.00-15.15
A
S 15.30  - but won't fall asleep

ETA: he finally fell asleep at 16.30, for 30mins only

Have I put DS down too early in this last cycle, I counted early waking as his A time but now don't know if he can't sleep because he's UT from going down too soon after feed or OT from too short a nap at 14.00. Did I do right thing or should I have kept A time going until 16.00 ish?

Any thoughts?

I've struggled with this as well and am interested what others think?

I also wonder if they sleep longer some times and go over that 3 hour marker?

Have you considered that the first A time is too long? I think there is a possibility that you you are missing his window and that's why it takes him so long to fall asleep. How are you putting him to sleep? Do you have a WD? Do you use Shush-pat? What is happening when you put him down in his cot? Lots of crying or he is just lying there?

It's hard for me to say anything about the afternoon A times without knowing the right A time for him and the best way to do that is to determine the first A time and then work from there.

Paualani8, I wouldn't let a baby nap more than 3h at the first months, 2.5h later on, or it can steal from night sleep.

Thank you!  I rarely let him sleep longer than 2 hours - I think I'll stop waking him up unless he hits the 3 hour marker =)
