Keeping milk supply up after baby drops night feed
« on: August 01, 2013, 13:28:33 pm »
Hi everyone,
My baby who is 6 weeks old is dropping the 2 am feed naturally for the past 3 nites. I have noticed a drop in my yield when pumping a bottle of expressed milk in the evening for my husband to dreamfeed ber. I express around 930pm at night.
Would anyone be so kind to have any suggestions as to how to keep supply up. We have struggled in breastfeeding with overactive let down which caused her to choke. It seems to be getting a wee bit better and i would really appreciate any support.
Many thanks

You could try pumping after the first morning feed as well as the evening pumping session and add the milk together.

Depending on when your go to bed you might want to try pumping later to give the breasts time to fill up more and you will also have less of a gap overnight without a feed.

You could also try pumping and then pumping again 20 minutes later or so.

I used to express around 7:30 or 8 then again at 9:30 to keep my supply up - eventually I brought those closer together and could do the 9:30 pump effectively.  Also, drinking a ton of water in the late afternoon really helped me!  Good luck!
