No schedule for 19 month old
« on: August 27, 2013, 01:34:29 am »
My soon to be 19 month old has no schedule lately. For a while he had a regular bt which was 9 and slept until 7. He then took a 2 hour nap at noon.
I think it was teething that caused him to start waking at night and at nap time. Then we went on vacation, and during that time he went back to taking 2 naps and waking up at 5 am.
Now we are back home and his sleep is a mess.. We have no order and I'm afraid it's not good for him, he needs the security. But I can't get him back on track. He wakes up at 5 sometimes 6 and takes short naps or one 1 hour nap.. We never know. Somedays his bt is 8 pm somedays he falls asleep at 6 pm before he had his bath.. Then he might wake up at night and want to start his day.

Any suggestions how I can help him to get into some kind of consistent routine?

Thank you:)

My lo is much younger but at 19 months my suggestion is stick with one nap. Have you done set naps set bt? Also with that early a wakeup I would do ebt. Does he tack?

I try to stick with one nap but he sometimes just falls asleep.. Even if I try to keep him up. Ebt means waking up extra early for him.. But I still do ebt when needed. The problem is that we never stick with the same time like I said it could be between 6-8.
What is set nap set bt?
And I wasn't sure what was the last question (tack?) ? :)
Thanks for your reply

Sorry popping on on my phone so can't write much. Tack means if you did ebt would he add on lost day sleep. But waking at 5:15. Makes it near impossible to do ebt. What would your ideal routine be?

You mean the routine that he was on before?
Wu 7am naps from 1-3 and bt at 9.
Last night he went to bed at 6pm, was up at night from 1-3 and went back to sleep until 5. Then he was in bed with me until 6:20 not really sleeping. It's 8 am and he is already tired.. Not sure how to keep him up.. I bet he'll fall asleep before 10 am..

9pm-7am is still a very short night, he's only getting 12 hrs sleep total even on the old routine. If he falls asleep for the night at 6pm what time does he wake up?

Also if he's waking at 5 or so 8pm is I would think way too long of a day. I think you are dealing with 18 month sleep regression as well. Cant link from my phone but there is a help post for that aswell. I think the prior routine may have lead to some built up OT and the early naps are perpetuating the ew'ings. Maybe try and stick with a 7pm bt no later. Try staying with one nap maybe around 12 and if they become better start pushing it to 1 and then you can push bt towrds 8.. Anna I'm not sure how long naps should be at this age?

Definitely too long of a day. A 2hr nap at this age is great but he almost certainly needs more overall sleep. 18 month sleep regression support thread - Part 2 here's the link Siobhan mentioned.
