Help with EW's please
« on: August 31, 2013, 08:52:14 am »
Just as i thought we were getting there the EW's are back. WU's got back on track to around 6:45/7 now we are back at 5:30ish. Dont know if its OT or routine casuing it but i would really like my 6:45 back.

When she wakes at 5:30 i would always pop in give her a wee bottle and she used to always go back to sleep until 6:45 now its only 50% of the time or less that she will go back to sleep.

We have 2 routines one for at home and one for when she is at the CM's on a Mon, Wed, Thu

CM days look like this

WU Between 5:30 and 6:45 if i get her back to sleep
Nap 12:20 - 14:00/14:30
BT 7pm

Home

WU 5:30 between 6:45
Nap 11:00 - 13 / 13:30 or falls asleep in car
OR
CN 10-10:20
Nap 12:50 - 15:00
BT 4.5hrs after WU

I dont ever plan a CN it will only be if she happens to fall asleep in the car on our way somewhere then i let her have 20 mins.

Any advice as i am so tired of EW's we've had them for so long just starting to enjoy my later WU then its gone again

I feel your pain, we had chronic EW until we dropped the nap.

Is there a reason that you have the two different routines? Just wondering if that might be coming into play - and also thinking about consistency so that her body can regulate itself a bit. I'd be tempted to try and get her to the same schedule the cm is on if possible - slowly, if needed!

Oh, Gail I'm sorry to hear things have gone off track.  Things were really good there for a bit, weren't they!  Those EWUs are tough as sleep is so precious.  I hope some well experienced eyes can guide you and Eva back on track soon!

Happy Birthday Eva!

Hi Gail,

My 1st thought when I saw your post was exactly what MJ&N has asked - why the 2 separate routines? I can't see that would be helping.

Also, the day is quite long, do I think E could be OT?

Any sign of teeth? Has anything happened/changed from when you were having acceptable WUs and EWs?

Sorry for all the questions - just trying to get an idea if what might be going on.

Hi, Thanks for everyones advice.

The reason we have 2 routines ais because when she is at the CM she has such a long forst A time (sometimes almost 7 hours 5:30 - 12:30) so the next day she is always more tired and falls asleep earlier on the Friday after she has had 2 days in a row at the CM she is totally shattered. She still copes well but will get very cranky at 4.5hrs A time. She wont take a CN at the CM's as she is full of beans playing with the other kids but will take a good 2hr ish nap then i do 4.5hrs to BT.

When she is at home i try not to do a CN but if i go out in the morning she sometimes just nods off in the car so i only let her have 20 mins then go for a long after lunch nap then 4.5hrs to BT again.

Nothing has changed, she's not been at the CM that long. Only 6 weeks so wasn't sure if she was getting OT from the long first A times there and it was just starting to effect her now?

I would like to have a similar routine for consistency but i can't see how at 12 months she could do those long A times every morning.

As for teething i'm not sure, she seems to have been teething for months but nothing new has appeared, if i try to feel her gums she just bites me so i couldn't really say. She is dribbling a lot and fussy with her food but as i said she has been like that for about 4months now.

Today she was up at 6 and was crying her wee eyes out at 10:10 so off to bed and out like a light and i know she will sleep for 2hrs at least.

That is a long A for her age. Do you think you're CM could give her an earlier nap. I think it'd help combat the OT which it sounds like she's struggling with and keep her routine consistent?

I know its so long. She is out and about at play groups with the CM so thats why it is that time. We were hoping she would fall asleep in the car for 20 mins in the AM to keep her going but she wont fall asleep she is too interested in the other kids.

Not sure if she could put her down as soon as they get home about 11:30/40 then do her lunch seperatly from the other kids when she wakes up. She did do that a couple of time but she would never eat lunch later so she started giving her lunch at 11:40 then doing nap afterwards.

Its so hard to get a consistent routine when you have to rely on childcare. What do you think would be a good routine for her age?

Is your ticker up to date? I think it was her birthday yesterday and today!

I'm wondering, if you think she could be tired, whether a couple of days of two naps spread throughout the week might help her catch up?

Gail, we pretty much have the exact same issue.  Ben naps at daycare at 12:30 and with EWs it makes for a looooong morning A time, so I find a lot of the time on the weekends he almost needs 2 naps to catch up.  My CM tried putting him down for a morning nap for a while, but he completely refused it as he was way to interested in the other kids and didn't want to nap unless they were napping too.

I don't have much advise, we go through periods where he will sleep until 6:30/45am and then this morning a 5:30am EW out of no where.  Even at 16 months I find at home going from 5:30am to 12:30am is too hard, so this morning I put him to bed at 10am - at least at daycare he has lots of other things that distract him.

Honestly, I've just come to the point where I know that EWs are a part of our world.  Ideally getting on a consistent schedule with daycare is best, but I know exactly where you are coming from that sometimes the OT is so bad from such long A times that 2 naps are needed.  I just think it will work itself over time - once he can grow into such a long morning A time the OT will reduce and hopefully the EWs will disappear.  He's been at daycare for almost 4 months and we still don't have it quite figured out!

Maybe i do just need to go with the fact EW's will be a part of our life until she can do that long an A time. Today she napped from 10:10 - 12:30 she was so grumpy and needed an early nap so it will be trying for a CN around 4.

Do you go for a PM CN, if so how long do you let him sleep and when after the first nop do you do it?

It really is hard when you cant control sleep every day  :o

Really cute ticker!

It will probably lengthen out as she gets older. I remember DS being so tired that he fell asleep in the strangest places. And he was up early too!

Sorry for the delayed response. To answer you'd Q from a few posts back. I guess they'd ideal would be a nap around 11/11.30 ( having had a decent WU ) for 2.5 h ( though I think my DD was sleeping 3hrs DTS at this age) with BT 12h from WU. But to get over the OT you might was to try a CN around 9.30 for 20 with a 5.30 WU and a proper nap at 12 ( uncapped for 2/3 days) with BT at 6.30 until you've caught up With the OT. What do you think?

Yeah i think that sounds like a plan. Yesterday at CM was a disater for slep so she is definitly OT today so will try for a 9:30 CN.

I do think that i need to stick to the 12hr day on 1 nap, and even not too a late a BT on a CN day, i was pushing BT out to 7/7:30 and i think it was just too long.
