5 year old bday ideas
« on: September 24, 2013, 17:34:42 pm »
Hi is about to be 5 and looking for some inspiration  :P

DH and I are getting him some Dino Lego but apart from that a bit stuck?

He needs a new bike but he loves the one he has so I am not going to mess with that atm.

Apart from lego what is a good present?

MIL always give sme money to buy something and this year am stumped. I did think about Transformers but general feeling seems to be they are a bit tricky for 5??

I can't bring myself to spend her money on power rangers - am sure one will end up in his stocking  ::)

So, yes any ideas v welcome.

there are different levels of Transformers, but yeah, my 5 yr old finds them too tricky and is always asking her daddy to change them for her.
How about games? Mine love the Party Monoploy for smaller kids, and there is an Angry Birds card game DD really likes.

"Guess Who" is a great game, so is "Mousetrap" and "Trouble".

How about a razor/scooter? Something for outside play like that?

Jacob basically just got Lego - Lego city stuff. My sister bought him 2 Lego board games. I got him a book about the solar system and a jigsaw.

Thing is he was so happy with the Lego that is was obviously just enough as it was. He was especially pleased with the massive police station box  ;).

Jacob does also love playmobil dino stuff.

I think this is the age when it's more about what they ask for as well, which in many ways makes it easier  ;).

Liz we got DS the big police station for his birthday this summer as well....have never seen him so excited over ANYTHING! He had been asking for it for nearly a year so he was bursting!  He also got some Lego board games (Shave the Sheep and Kikoriko or something like that....it is the chicken and egg one) and another little board game (Ravensburger Kiki Ricky I think?).  Books - a world atlas book, a Richard Scarry book (big favourite here!), a couple of bedtime story books, and a magazine.

Other things he plays with a lot right now: stamping kit/paper/pencil crayons, Hot Wheels sets, Angry Birds game, UNO cards, marbles....and Lego, Lego, lego.....

I was going to suggest Playmobil too.  Or things like magnets, or science-y kits, stuff that you do rather than just look at.  Anything that you can put together and build.  Does Henry like stuff like that??

We gave DS a hexbug hive as he had some bugs for Christmas, and it was a really good quality 'big' present - and a cheap one at around £20. It was also nice to be able to tell friends that he would like a few more bugs, so that his birthday presents didn't end up taking up loads of space.

It still gets played with now, especially when he has friends round.

Goodness, do we have the same kid??? Apart from the Richard Scarry book, and Uno cards, that is EXACTLY Jacob's list of dream toys!!

Hexbugs sound good, well I don't really know what they are but they seem something he might like.  :D

playmobil is out as we had loads and it rarely got played with but yes wendy he loves scienc-y stuff. I wondered about a science kit of some sort.

He has a scooter which is relatively new.

Games are a good idea - he is into snakes and ladders atm. what is mousetrap anne?

we just looked at a remote control spiderman car which I know he would like   8)

They are little robots that act exactly like bugs! They bump into things and turn and flip themselves.

DS has a magnet kit which he loves!

  MouseTrap:

  http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-4657-Mousetrap/dp/B00000DMFD

Super fun.....you build the mousetrap as you go. At the end you get to see if you're contraption works! The ball goes down the stairs, knocks over a bucket, which makes a plastic man jump, etc, etc, until the plastic net comes down the pole and traps your opponents mouse!  If you did not build it right, or it malfunctions, you don't trap the mouse, and play continues. It's really cute! I used to play it when I was little, and Millie loves it now too!
