To dream feed or not to dream feed?
« on: November 08, 2013, 03:55:16 am »
Hi!

I just recently bought Tracy's books and have started my 3 month old on a 3 hour E.A.S.Y. and it is going very well.

Previously I had not been giving my LO a dream feed and I am not sure whether I should start or just leave it? The reason I say this is that she has lasted from 7:00pm to 1:00/2:00am a couple of times.

Any thoughts suggestions most welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Eek I wouldn't know for sure but we dream fed our LO until quite late on in the piece and he slept through from 6 1/2 weeks.  In saying that, I wasn't aware of baby whispering techniques back then so wouldn't be able to tell you what our routine was at that age.
Good luck...no harm in trying!

I did DF and worked great for us, LO used to have it about 10.45 then wake about 2-3am for a feed. That was pretty consistant until about 6 months old!

I think it works for some people and not for others!

We found that adding a dream feed just meant that DS woke at 10ish as well as his normal night feeds around 1am and 4am. It took a little while to fade out that waking again, too. He was doing a long stretch from 7pm to 1am beforehand so I wasn't pleased!

Cluster feeding is also an option. I fed 3 hourly in the morning and closer in the afternoon - something like 7,10,1,3,5,7.

I'm going to give it a go for a week like the book suggests and will post back and let people know how it goes.

Thank-you everyone for your responses!

From a nervous first time mummy.

I've been trying the dream feed now for 4 nights & it isn't going very well...

We dream feed DD at 11:00pm & now she has started habitually waking at 1:30am & 4:00am. I Have tried to settle her rather than feed her as it has only been 2.5 hours. Sometimes it works but sometimes I have to feed her. She refuses to take a dummy!

Do I keep persisting or should I just go back to what I was doing?

If you feel it's not helping maybe go back to what you previously did and see what happens. Could be a growth spurt though and wasn't unusual at that age for my LO to wake a couple of times x

Just a quick message to let everyone know that after trying for a week, the dream feed did not work for our LO. :-[

It doesn't for everyone. Just another step in understanding your baby's needs!
