So little sleep
« on: November 09, 2013, 20:06:25 pm »
Oh dear, the last three days have been a bit of a disaster. E has had a nasty cold and I think she's teething those final molars as she's dribbling for Britain. On Thursday she napped for maybe half an hour max then slept at about 9pm having been in bed since 7.30. Yesterday and today out EAS was:

WU: 7am
Nap tried and refused - tried at 1.30pm, 2.30pm. Then cuddled on the sofa for a bit.
BT: 6.30pm but I think she was OT and we had some difficult to manage screaming and tantrums plus behaviour which seemed like she was actually in pain in some way. She'd had meds and eventually fell asleep sitting upright on me at about 9.30. She didn't settle properly until nearly 11pm.

WU: 7am ish
Nap tried and refused, including driving her round in the car.
BT: tried at 6pm - but she was running about and probably already OT by this point. She's still awake now at 8pm but is at least in her cot. I can hear loud fireworks too which probably aren't helping.

Should I try for an early nap tomorrow? She normally heads off after lunch for a sleep at about 1.30/2pm but maybe something nearer midday as she seems so OT?

Can anyone see anything else I might be missing?

I seriously think it's a 2yr old thing.  DD had a really weird sleep patch around her 2nd birthday too, and I got a lot of replies commiserating.  It just seemed like they were all doing it!  Sorry I know that's not really any help  :-\. DD skips her nap probably about once a week now and does EBT on those days, but most of the time is back to decent naps and nights.

I would do a one-off earlier nap to see if that helps...are you giving meds before sleep?

Yes she had a rough couple of weeks around her second birthday but it settled again so I thought we were past it. She'll be 25 months on 20th - I need to change my ticker :)

I am medicating before naps and BT, I'll try and one-off early nap and see if she sleeps and get back on track.

Thanks for the hugs ladies xxx

Hugs Naomi  :-*

Those last molars are horrible, so all I can advise is plenty of meds!

If she doesn't sleep then quiet time is just as good (snuggles on the sofa are fine).

Around that age we had a few unsettled phases at BT and had to to WIWO or GW for a few nights to help him settle. It's really useful to have these BW tools as they work st any age!

Hope she settles down soon  :-*

Do you have a gro clock?  I found using that at nap time used to help when lily was that age.  I used to set it for 45 minutes from her nap time,  pop her in her cot with the lights dimmed, some soft toys and books and say she had to stay there playing quietly until the sun camepup and that she could sleep if she wanted to.  Sometimes she fell asleep that way,  once the expectation for her to nap was gone.  Other times she wouldn't,  but at least it was restful,  quiet time (for us both!). If she fell asleep I used to creep in her room and set the sun to come up at a later time. You could do the same with a timer if you don't have a gro clock?

It started for us around 26m. I think it an age come molar thing, there's too many of us in the same boat for it to be routine x

Yes we do have a gro clock, I hadn't thought of using it for naps/quiet time, good idea, thanks :)

So plan for today is an earlier than usual nap - we're going to do a lunch-type snack at around 11 so she can sleep anytime after that if she wants and then I'll set the gro clock for it.

ooh yes, I forgot we used it for naps with H when he got to the stage of sometimes napping and sometimes not - just gave us all some quiet time ;)
M has all her molars so she has no excuse but it does seem lots of us with lo's the same age faffing about.

Woo hoo - we had a nap today!!! :D
She slept from 1.15 and I had to wake her at 3.15. She's just gone off to sleep I think for the night so fingers crossed for tonight.

Tomorrow and Tuesday she's at nursery so everything is different then anyhow. She was so much happier this afternoon.

Teething is definitely playing a part. She was super grumpy this morning. DH and I couldn't do anything right. After breakfast she asked for some calpol and after half an hour she was chirpy as anything. Poor sausage.

Thanks for the support lovelies
