I recently sleep trained my five month old son with pupd. We have been successful in getting him to sleep for much longer periods at night. It took five days, but he finally will nap in his crib.

Only problems are: he naps for only 30 minutes and he wakes twice before midnight. I feed him at the first wake up, and the midnight wake up takes me about a half hour of pupd for him to settle.

He wakes from his naps happy and ready to play. If he is upset, he just smiles when he sees me. i am rely not sure what to do, if anything. I understand that at this age they take short naps, but this really can't be good for my little man.

Any advice or suggestions?  Thanks!  And his schedule is all over the place cause of these catnaps...

When are you attempting to give him the nap? Could you post last few days for us? Does he go down on his own now or do you help him get to sleep?

I try the first nap about 8am, he wakes at 6. He'll sleep for 1/2 hour. Then awake time until i feed him at 9:30 am. I wait an hour and a half or two hours and try for another nap. He'll sleep for 1/2 hour and then we repeat the routine. The times have been different each day because he will wake at 6, 6:30 or 7. I wish he was consistent, but no such luck.

He definitely needs my help to sleep. He had not yet mastered goin to sleep without me there. :(

Does this help?

If he wakes up and is happy, it could be that he needs some more A time to be tired enough for more sleep...but it could also be from not knowing how to go to sleep on his own. Have you tried pu/pd for naps or just at night? How do you help him settle?

I do pupd for both naps and bedtime. I whisper in his ear, shush and hold him. When he settles, in the crib he goes and most often he now just rolls over onto his side mid-cry and falls asleep.  Sometimes he has plenty of awake time, over 2 hours, and will still only nap for 30 minutes. I think that i do hold him too long to settle him sometimes, maybe five minutes if he is very upset. But this is more of an exception than a rule.
