What do you think?
« on: November 17, 2013, 02:08:29 am »
t is 13 mths and his napping has varied between 1hr20 and 3 hrs but lately we were getting 1hr20-2hrs20.
This last week he has been off, not sick just off. ... I wonder if he is OT or if he needs a set nap??? Or is this just teeth?

Today for example was
WU 6 think he went back to sleep till 6.30 out of cot 6.45
Nap 11.45 had a little cry so I went back in put my hand on his back for a min and he settled and went to sleep for.... 50/55 mins - pitiful cry but wouldn't settle. PU for 2 mins and back down with teething gel and slept 15 mins :o then up again and fitfully slept another 15/20 so up at 1.10ish I think.

Going for EBT of 6

Historically EBT has been good for him but not so much the last week.

I thought he was doing well on an AM A of 4hrs45-5 hrs and pm of 5-5.15 but I wonder if this is OT behavior I'm seeing?

I pretty much can't go back to a CN as he only takes it in the car or APOP and it's tough with Z around. My mum is away for 3 weeks so I can't use her to take Z, or to help out YK?

Nights have been good lots of STTN or NW where he settles himself in a min or two but last night he was pants.

(Here was routine 3 weeks ago Re: Anyone want to talk about the 2-1 transition - #25 )

Sounds like it could be teeth to me. Does he normally need more sleep when he's teething?

Teeth at this age were rough for us, mainly at night though. DS handles ot well so we just had to ride out the lack of sleep and keep medicating.

Are you doing meds before nap?

Yeah I'm giving meds too...I know he is young for 1 nap but Z was too and typically he has tacked on, and gives me good tired signs...he was OT by BT tonight and I knew because he was eye rubbing and crying and we missed his BT by 15 mins as we had guests.

Dyt given he's teething, or something is up that I should offer his nap a bit earlier tomorrow and see how he goes? - just to catch up if need be? Or best to stick with consistancy?

It doesn't seem early to me, my DS was on one nap by then. I think our boys are very alike!

Yes, why not try a slightly earlier nap. Even with a set nap and bt I used to follow cues a little bit, and varied the timings by 15-30 mins if I felt it was necessary.

I think possibly DS was on an earlier nap at T's age - but then he was always up stupidly early!

How does he seem before his nap Sara ? Is he really ready for it when you put him down, or ok?
L dropped to one nap at 13 mos (and I clung on to two for as long as poss..) which was at about 12.15 (WU at 6.30-6.45) but she is LSN and that was fine for her.

If it's teeth then I suspect tinkering with the nap time might not help, unless there is OT buildup.  If he is less tired when you put him down then you might just get a shorter nap.

Catherine he seems ok at nap time, but then ready for BT at 6 as the nap is a bomb

* woke at 6.30 with the same eeeeeee cry ??? DH is trying to resettle till 7 then we will get him up if he doesn't. Ugh, I'm sooo tired. Things were so good finally for a few eels.

Oh no :(

Hope the rest of the night was better

I think 13 mo we got SA and teething too - so tricky to handle.

Not really sure any tweaking will help tbh (unless he's getting v ot and needs to catch up)

Hope you all get some better sleep soon :-*

DH got him back to sleep at 6.45 and it's now 7.50 I'm just going to let him sleep. At least if he is OT a short day will help?

Thanks Hun, I'll see how he is today, if we get another long NW I'm not sure what to do. I feel like I'm endlessly medicating and really don't want to keep doing so (he was so poorly with bugs through winter, now teeth YK) but I also know if I don't he may sleep better.

What did you do with sa at this age? Wi/WO or just be there through it? Or gw

Hi hun, SA here has meant one of us staying in DD's room until she fell asleep.  I can't remember exactly how long it lasted but it's happened two or three times. I think 2 weeks max and then she went back to normal.  Usually she is v independent and just gets distracted by us being there (co-sleeping is a disaster!), so when she does need us we accommodate it and it has never caused a problem.

Def give meds if they help him, but I understand being reluctant.  I used to feel the same way giving meds when DD was teething, and I stopped in the end because I'd tried them all and they never made a difference.  We got through canines and molars med-free!  But if you notice him sleeping better I wouldn't worry about giving too much, if it helps it helps x

He woke around 8... And did a big poop which looked like it had a constipated plug :-\ ::) he is a lot happier this am.

So I guess I'll see how we go tonight. I'm going to offer the nap a bit early - after 4hrs45 A and see what happens.

Wow, that's a monster nap! Hope it helps the SA! I think we stayed with him but did the bare minimum at these points. Molars etc are all a confusing picture at this age!

What did you do with sa at this age? Wi/WO or just be there through it? Or gw

We tried to give as little support as necessary iyswim.  Eg we wouldn't stay until fast asleep, but would stay for a bit and offer comfort.

I do remember though we got in a complete pickle around 17-18 mos with SA and staying with L (she got too upset if we left) but TBH I'm not sure what we would/could have done differently..  Once she was past the SA stage it was quite quick (< 1 week) to get back to IS with GW that time (since then we've used WIWO).

Sorry nap was wrong! I was thinking that's a not a monster ;) 12.35-2.15 I meant!

Last night was better BT 7.15 unsettled sleep between 9.15-9.45 then crying at 10.15. He wasn't even really awake ??? Then slept till 6.15 and is groaning in the cot now it's 6.30 so I'm getting him up.

His nights are short. I can't get him to sleep past 6.30 all of a sudden?

Should I be trying a longer As today or stick with the shorter one. :-\ I've got to be careful as I need him to sleep past 1pm or he can't last till BT of 6 and I don't want to do earlier...

I'm sorry Sara, I really don't know! I feel so out of touch for A times now that I haven't had to think about them in a while. Also DS was on so much longer times that I really just used to go with my gut. I think consistency really helps them at this age though!

Wish I could offer you more than that!
