8 months sleep regression - help
« on: January 29, 2014, 17:04:27 pm »
Hi there,
My dd just entered the 8 months sleep regression. She is always bang on time with all these developmental phases. We survived the 4 months sleep regression with ap and loads of props and sleep trained her when the regression was over with pupd. This worked beautifully and she slept so well. Yesterday and today we were trying the usual nap and bt procedure incl pupd and sh pat and it just didn't work. Today I gave up on both naps after an hr and let her fall asleep in my arms and then lying together with her in our bed. What do people do? Do the persevere with pupd and will it eventually work or is it ok to do whatever is needed to the her to sleep and sleep train again after the regression? Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much fran
Franziska

Hi Fran,

Usually best to stay away from using props but obviously if your LO is fighting sleep and is clearly exhausted, it's only natural to want to help them out a little. I wonder though whether she may not be tired enough? How long is she awake for before you attempt to give her a nap? Is she working on anything new like standing up in her cot/cruising?

Hi Layla,

Thanks for your reply. she currently has an A time of 3.15. I have tried to increase it and only got short naps of 35 mins. until the day before problems started it was no problem to put her down for a nap. she also has a cold currently so I dont think she can have a longer A time, if anything shorter. thats my feeling anyway...
thanks again fran

maybe its her being sick rather than he sleep regression. i would have also held mine to sleep if she was sick and unsettled.

hope she feels better soon

Hi again,

Im glad you also did APOP when your children were sick and I presume it didnt create bad habits? yesterday and today was already easier to put her down again, god knows what happened to her on wednesday... hopefully over time I can increase her A time and get that way longer naps.
thanks again, fran
