Help- 13MO sleep going wrong
« on: February 11, 2014, 20:59:24 pm »
13 MO DS has generally followed the routines well

Recently we've had a few hiccups and really not sure what to do

Had a bad few months (3months)  with virus after virus, 3 molars through within 2 weeks of each other (1 still not through) topped off with MMR vaccine 2 weeks ago- he took it badly and had very high temperatures for 6 days with it!  Advised by the paed to give milk in the night as dehydrated etc- so ended up with having to wean him from milk again in the night.  Seems to have worked thus far.  Albeit this past 2 weeks we are back up to an oz just to settle him when he's waking.

As a result sleep is all over the place.

I've cut down his am and pm sleep to 45 mins- 1 hour each in response to him waking early and this has had little effect.  Just can not get him to a long lunchtime sleep as he is waking too early.
Also the past 2 nights we have been up every 1 hour with his dummy (pacci).  I am not sure if his teeth are hurting, hence the need to suck or it really is time to lose the dummy.  First time we've really had any problems

Any advice on what I can do with him?  Go cold turkey on the dummy?- albeit I am not entirely sure we need to as for example in the night last night he fell asleep without it- It was approx. another sleep cycle after that he cried out.

I thought he was overtired so started with a 6-6.30 bedtime in response to shorter nap times- still no real difference.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Hugs honey, it's a rough ride with viruses and teething at this age.

I have to say, that seems like a fabulous amount of sleep for a 13 month old. Has he always been high sleep needs as far as you are aware?

I'm sorry I have a few more questions for you. Do you have to replug his dummy at night? When you're up with him every hour, do you feed him every time? Before all this started was he an independent sleeper?

I'm sure we can help you get things sorted, I'm sorry for all the questions. Xx
