5am starts- resulting in exhausted toddler & mum
« on: February 18, 2014, 08:17:28 am »
Hi,
LO is 23 months old & has always had difficulties with sleep. However, recently after a long hard slog to get her sleeping through the night, she is waking for the day at 5am. We do not go in to her room- we leave her as long as possible. When she used to slee p until 6/6:30 we would leave her until 7/7:15- but obviously to leave her from 5-7 isn't doable! By 6:15/6:30 she is crying.
I am pregnant- early days & I'm exhausted. My question is- on the days that she is up this early what time should she nap?! Because either one or the other AT is going to be VERY long....

Usual day is as follows.....

6:30/7 wake
12:30 nap
2/2:30 wake
7:00 bedtime

She is also taking longer to go over at night- so she is OT I think?

Yesterday was
5am wake
12:30 sleep
3:00 wake
7:00 bed- but wasn't asleep til 8:45
Complete nightmare!!!!!!

Please can someone advise me- if she has a late night & an EW how I organise nap/AT/BT? Many thanks xxxx

Given she is taking longer to go over at night I'd actually think she is UT.

Looking at yesterday she only had 4 hours A time after a 2.5 hour nap. I wouldn't have expected her to be ready for bed at this age until at least 8.30/9pm.

So I think your best plan would be to cap the nap at 1.5 hours and do bedtime at least 5 hours after nap wake up.

At that age my oldest did

8am wake  up
1pm nap
3pm wake up
8.30/9 bed

My DD2 did

7.30 wake up
12.30/1 nap for a half hour
7.15 bed

HTH x

Thanks- your daughters routine is more or less what our usual routine is.
As I said-yesterday was a nightmare day because of the early waking 😞 8:30/9 is far too late for our LO to go to bed. She usually does an hour & a half sleep and that works well.
I really just needed to know what to do on the days that she does have that early waking- so thanks- I shall cap that nap!!!
I will keep you posted! 🙏😁xx
Thanks

Even on your usual day though 4.5 A time after a 1.5/2 hour nap may not be enough A time which is why you are getting the 5am wake up as your LO is just not tired enough to sleep more at night.
