A time for 20mo?
« on: February 24, 2014, 03:36:28 am »
Just wanted to get an idea of what your LOs routine looks like at 19/20mo?

DD has been having short naps (rarely more than 1.5hrs mostly 50m up to 1:20) & shortish nights (usually around 10.5hrs or  close to 11hrs but can be as little as 9:30hrs) for quite a while (in fact I can't really remember a time when she actually slept 12hrs at night). She seems to be coping ok on an average of 12/12.5hr sleep in 24hrs. That's fine,  but her nap time refusal has been getting worse (for nap i used to put her down around 5:40A then 6hrs A but it takes her till 6.5hrs sometimes to want to sleep?)

Here's our routine yesterday

Wu 7.15
Nap 1.35pm - 3.10 (rare length for her)
Bt 830

Both nap and bt took me 45minutes! Just standing up, laughing, singing, asking to go out etc. There just doesn't seem to be any point trying for naps before 6hrs A or more but this puts her nap quite late at 1-1.30? Not that she ever sleeps past 1.5hrs but did you start capping naps around this age?

Thanks :)

We were not capping naps at 20 months and my DD is average-low sleep need I would say...has your lo always been quite low sleep needs? If it were me I would just set the nap for 1/1.30pm at this age and then allow a little flexibility for BT i.e. if the nap has only been 1.10 then I would PD for bed around 7pm and see if that help - she may be hitting a second wind....

Hi,

We weren't capping naps at this age either. My dd borders on hsn - nap was around 12.30/45 (usually anywhere between 2/2.5h) and BT 7pm

I agree with Becky, it may help to set the nap and BT - that way you'll  be able regulAte your LOs day and know where you are in the day and stick to
Your guns as it were!?

Mmm I have always had to cap my boys naps. BUT at this age I still offered 1.5 hrs and Z is LSN/high A times.

I agree with the others but I'm wondering if you need to set WU and nap to get BT acceptance if set BT isn't working.

Ie WU 7
Nap 1.30-3
BT 7-7.30 they tend to like a longer first A as they get older and this will do that without BT getting to later or the day getting too long :-\ just another perspective x

Thanks ladies for your quick response!

Yes i think she is probably LSN (either that or she's been OT a lot.....) i will give long morning A (nap around 1) and set BT a good try this week.  I also wondered whether the bt refusal (usually fight bt until 8 then goes off on the dot!) was her getting a second wind as well cos her total sleep is really not much on average. So aiming for 12hr nights/13.5hrs over 24 hrs roughly?

I will try to keep a consistent Wu but it really takes a lot of discipline to get up on a day she sleeps in  ;-)

see if she is LSN then 13.5 hours overall is quite a bit. We have not had more than 12.5 in a good while (except during a GS)
