EWs, naps and shorter night sleep.
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:47:53 am »
Hello,
My LO seems to be sleeping less hours at night, maybe 9,5-10 hours sometimes. He is 8mo now and used to sleep longer, and I thought the older they got the longer they slept?

He has just dropped his last nap and he now naps 1hr for his first nap (sometimes 30 mins) and 1hr30mns for his second. Sometimes he is awake close to 4 hours before BT since he dropped the CN :( is this where I am going wrong and the reason for his EW??

Also, for example this morning he woke up over an hour earlier than usual so eventually I put him in bed with me and he fell asleep again for half an hour, which I guess means he hadnt slept enough? And now I am not sure when to put him down for his nap?? do I wait his full usual 3hr A?

thanks  :)

Sounds like overtiredness to me.....could you post his normal day in EAS format e.g

WU 7
A
S 10-11
 Etc?

Thanks  :)

Sure here it is, we try to do 8-8:30am to 8:30pm due to work commitments etc.

Wake up 8:15
E 8:45
A 3 hours
S 11:15 - he usually sleeps 1hr but sometimes anything between 35-50mins)
E 13:30
A 3 hrs
S 15:00 - 1:30hrs
E 17:30
A this is where it all goes wrong as he has dropped his catnap most days so around 4hrs activity
E 20:30
S 21:00

I guess the BT is quite late, is that what's causing the problems?
You mean he is OT in the morning?
And, if we do have the EW and he goes to sleep before getting up again, how do I go about his first nap?

Thanks very much :)

Hi, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this please?
The tiredness is catching up with him, now he wakes up tired from his naps and from his night sleep too...and keeps waking up earlier and earlier  :(
Thanks  :)

Many apologies for not getting back to you sooner - we're all busy mums just like yourself!

I would bring his BT earlier, I'd suspect it's that long stretch before bed that is causing the issues.  I'd make it 30-60 mins earlier and see if that helps.  You might need to stick at it a few days before you see a difference though.  Do you want to post the last day or two as well?  You might be able to make some routine tweaks to get some longer naps.

I'm not sure I understand your question about EW and going back to sleep again?  If he has an EW that you resettle, then start your day when he wakes the next time.  And do normal A time before first nap.  Is that what you mean?

Thank you for your reply I appreciate it!

Ok, we started last night we managed 20 mins earlier, will carry on working towards 30-60mins and I will let you know how we get on! So the earlier we put him to bed he should be less OT and sleep a longer stretch right?

Yesterday the routine was a disaster (naps went wrong as he was fussy) so I will wait a couple of days and write down here my EAS when we have a better couple of days?

Yes thats what I meant, I read here maybe the day should start from the first waking but I wasnt too sure as he usually goes to sleep afetrr a EW, but will start from the latest waking, thanks.
