Help with 6 week old EASY Please
« on: February 25, 2014, 10:57:51 am »
Hi,
I cannot seem to get my 6 week on the easy routine at all. Night time is all over the place as it takes him so long to settle after feed.
Here is a look at our attempted Easy yesterday:

E:5am
A:Either lying in cot or trying to get back to sleep
S:Maybe 5.45am -7.30/8
E:7.30/8
A:Nappy change/play etc
S: Lay down at 9.15am resting but not asleep, bit fussy but not upset
E:10.30am
A: Nappy change/play etc
S:Lay down at 12 (no sleep) overtired and restless
E:1pm
A: None straight to sleep
S:1.40pm till 4.40pm (had to let him sleep to catch up)
E:4.45pm
A: play/nappy
E: 6.15pm
A: Bath
E:8pm
S:Lay down at 8.30pm didn't go to sleep till 9.30pm, fussing a lot
E: Df at 11pm straight back to sleep
E: 2.30am couldn't go back to sleep till 4.30 and was restless throughout that sleep

He was 9lb 12oz at birth, he's eating between 4/5 oz at feeds, night feeds can be less, sometimes takes at least 45 mins to finish a feed. Also, not really hungry every 3 hours for a feed so have to persist.
Should I still try every 3 hours or do every 4 hours? I know he is overtired  in the mornings but I just cant seem to get him to sleep when he shows signs of tiredness.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated??

Many Thanks

Sorry, no experience of this but his eating could be effecting his sleep pattern.
This post will give you a bump though.

Thank you both for replying and yes I agree about activity times but tried just nappy change and cuddles but just gets overtired trying to get to sleep, lots of grunting/moaning/ but no crying. He seems so tired in the day right now,  but awake at bedtime. Also should l let him go the 3.5 to 4 hours for a feed as he really is not interested in it at all before then. He is 12lb 5oz. Last night it took 1hr 45 mins to settle him to sleep.
Sorry if this sounds confusing, I also have a 2 year old and a sick 3.5 year old at moment so utterly exhausted!!

Sounds like you have your hands full there with 3 lovely LOs :)

Although I haven't any experience of going longer than 3hrs between feeds at this age I think you know your baby well enough and have plenty of mummy experience so I would just go for the 3.5 or 4hr whatever you feel is right for him and trust your mummy instinct.  You might see some feeds clashing with naps but just work around it best you can.

When you say he's getting OT trying to get to sleep, is this whilst mantra crying and self settling?  How do you settle him to sleep?
