Should I extend first A time
« on: February 28, 2014, 20:35:11 pm »
Up until the past week, DD has generally taken good naps. She is 11 weeks old and her A time was about 1hr 15 when she was taking good naps, except her first morning A time which is shorter (about an hour). The past week her naps have drastically shortened to 45min, often waking at 30 min crying as well. Her first morning nap is now 45min, which could be a sign of UT. But she is still showing signs of tiredness at the hr mark, hence I'm still keeping her first morning A time the same. Do you think I need to extend her first A time even though is showing sleepy signs at the same hour mark.
Her short morning nap is causing the 2nd and 3rd overtired short naps.

Yes, I think so. She could probably do another 10-15 mins to start with, do that for about three days, and see if it helps.

Have you seen this?

Yes I have thank you. So if she does say 1hr 10 before her first morning nap, should I try for 1hr 25 for her other naps? (10min added to 1hr 15).

If you get a good first nap, you could. If you still get a 45 minute nap, I would try five minutes more a time tomorrow.

This first morning A she ended up having 1 and half hours A time (I started wind down 1hr 10, and it was 20min later til she fell asleep on her own). But still got. 45min nap!

How long should A time be til her next nap due to her short nap?

If you usually do 1hr 15 after that short first nap I would continue with that. The risk of reducing too much is getting another short nap.

After her 45min nap, I was in and out of her room for the the rest of the nap time (45 min ) trying to settle. She'd also settle herself but would wake 10, 20min. So would I count that resettling period as part of her A time, as that remaining 45 min she didn't sleep well. Anyhow I put her down again after getting her up at 10am at 11, and she woke crying after 20min.

Man, this is really tough, especially with a 3 year old to look after too. She used to nap so well and it's like an off switch has just been pressed on her.

I would do as Sarah suggested and add another 5 mins to the first A time tomorrow. You need to have a longer A time for a few days to let her settle into it but at the moment it seems worth increasing again even though it will only be day 2.
Hope you have a better day tomorrow.
