When to drop bottle
« on: March 05, 2014, 16:04:02 pm »
My lo is 8 months and he still takes 4 bottle feedings but the amount has dropped from 4 full 9 oz bottles to sonewhere between 26-30 oz total. He's been dropping little by little since we started solids at 6 months. The pediatrician says not to let it drop below 26 oz total for the day. He eats about 4-5 tablespoons of food 3x a day. Should I lower consider dropping a bottle and just giving him 3 larger bottles of 8.5-9 oz?

I would leave it at 4 bottles for a few more weeks, it's usually around 9/10 months that FF babies drop to 3 bottles. He is taking a good amount at the moment, so stick with it and see how he does If he starts to refuse his mid morning or mid afternoon bottle or they drop to below 4/5oz that's the time to drop to 3.

HTH!

I've also read about offering less formula so that they will have room for more solids?

That is something to think about if when they get close to 1 the LO is not eating much at all. You LO is eating really well quantity wise but you need to keep the milk at the level your Dr has suggested, you don't want to be reducing milk yet!

How are things now? Have you tried offering the bottle as soon as he wakes after a nap before you take him out of his room?
