EASY for 9 month old
« on: March 17, 2014, 21:21:04 pm »

After a bad catnap of 30-40 mins would you suggest only a 3 hr A time instead of 3.5? Also what if u get another catnap at the second nap which will be around 130? Would I do EBT? Hes teething which is why I think he's having problems with naps.
Thanks

My lo will be 9 months next week and we've been following an easy schedule since he was very new :). Just wondering if I should be extending A times etc. his normal easy looks like this:

7 wake
715 bottle ( about 6 oz)
8 breakfast 4 tbsp solids cereal and fruit
Play until nap ( floor time, exersaucer etc) then window  read books before nap
10-11:10 nap
11:15 bottle ( avg 6 oz)
1145-12 lunch 4-5 tbsp solids veggies fruit lentils/ beans
Play or out on errand
230-3 nap (usually in car he always only gives me 30 mins here I've tried for months to extend no luck )
315-330 bottle (6 oz)
630 start bedtime routine feed and in crib around 645

Is there anything I can / should change? Lately I've been getting EW around 6-630 am. Is there too much A time before bed?

Thanks so much

And he also takes 8 oz at night before bed. I am confused though lately he seems to need more A time before bed about 4 hours isn't that a little long when he's only napped about 1 hr 10-20 min in the am and just a 30 min nap around 230?  I tried tonight to put him to bed earlier thinking msybe he was ot. He was up at 625 am ( I got him out of crib at 640) took his first nap at 940-1050 then a catnap of 30 mins from 230-3 ( the catnap is his usual) and I tried to put him to bed at 630 and he was wide awake. Kept having to go in and rub his back. I even took him out of crib and held him for a few mins. He always goes to sleep with no problems. So this is unusual for him. He finally fell asleep at 7 which is 4 hrs A time.

The average A time for 9 months is about 3.5 hours and 4 hours at 10 months. You could try stretching that first A to 3.5 hours to see if it will get you a longer nap. You will need to increase his A time by 10/15 mins and then hold for a few days, then increase again.

You may also find that if you can increase the A times and get longer naps you will need to increase his day length or you won't fit it in. At this age my DD was awake about 6.30, nap was 10-11.30 and then 2.30-4 with bedtime at 7 so she was asleep by 7.30pm.

Thank you :) I just wasn't sure because it's happened to me a few times. That first isn't so bad it's that second nap the 30 mins that's tough. So I'll try to up the A times. I've done it in the past but I got shorter naps and then he started teething. Which he is now too.

Once you push the A times you do need to keep them stable for about a week before really knowing if they are working or not.

Good luck.

Hi there, it's been a couple of days since Laura suggested increasing the A time. Have you manged to get it up a bit yet?
Might be difficult depending how badly he's teething, mine seemed to be teething for ever and we were still able to change the routine but not so much on the really bad days if he got super tired from the pain.
