Need help, again… BF 6mon old twice at night
« on: March 19, 2014, 22:18:36 pm »
My 6 mon old EBF has been eating twice a night since day 1. She will go 5-6 hrs between feeds once in a blue moon. Most of the time its 3.5-4 hrs. She is on 4 hr EASY (although I just started solids, so its more flexible now). I tried weaning her off of the 1am feed for 2 weeks doing PuPd, but she kept waking up anyways and it was EXHAUSTING! I just don't know what to do. I'm getting about a 3 hr stretch of sleep at a time and I'm just so tired I can barely function some days.

Do I try again to wean her off 1am feed to teach her to go longer at night?
Do I just feed her and HOPE she drops the 1am on her own?

Thanks for your help again!

Do you do a dream feed?  What does the rest of your day look like timing wise?  My ds nursed twice a night at that age too.  It's not particularly fun, but he did eventually drop the feeds of his own accord.  I found that if weaning the feed was that much work, it wasn't time for it to go yet.  And if she's just 6 months, there is a growth spurt in there too that could be messing with her feeds.

I agree with Erin.

I would look at upping her calories in the day.  Are you already offering both sides?
