How long do you let your LO nap?
« on: March 24, 2014, 01:40:46 am »
Today DD (19 months) surprised us with a HUGE nap.  Of course on the day when I left her with DH to go into work to catch-up ::)  She was still asleep when I got home at 3 and DH said she went down like a ton of bricks at noon.  We ended up waking her at 3:30.  She had an ok night last night (up a bit earlier than usual because she was coughing) and has napped well the last few days so I don't know what was up.  Just curious about what others would have done - let her be or woken her?

My boys never ever take monster naps like that unless they need it (ie: illness coming on, physical or developmental growth spurt, over stimulation), so I usually trust that their body needs it on the off chance that they actually sleep that long. However, now, even on days that they're under the weather or something, I cap it and go with an EBT because as they've gotten older (ie: almost 3 and newly 5) allowing a significant amount of additional day sleep gets us into an UT/OT cycle insanely fast. At 19 months though, I usually let them take the lead on those odd (and incredibly rare) long nap days.

I think it might be a growth spurt because we can't seem to get enough food in her!  Thanks for the advice - next time, I think I'll leave her be and see what happens.

I tend to let sleeping babies (and toddlers) lie, but my LO almost always sleeps well at night, so I don't have to worry very much about a long nap affecting nighttime sleep.
