Help! 2mo doing 2hr EASY and takes only 30 minutes nap
« on: April 05, 2014, 22:23:51 pm »
My DD is 8 weeks now and she has been doing 2hr EASY Since she was born. She is already 13lbs but we just cant extend the feeding to 3 hrs.
She would take 15-20 min feeding and we are done with diaper change/ burping /activity by one hour and she only sleeps for 30 mins and wide awake! Looking for food again!
I am breastfeeding anf I even tried formula to see if she can sustain more time, but EXACTLY after she falls asleep for 30 mins, she would awake and feeding time again....ugh

She is sleeping 2 to 3hrs in row in the night , but daytime nap has always been 30 mins...
What could be theproblem? I tried shorter a time but still she would wake up in 30 mis! Help please! Any insight is appreciated!

Hi there
The A time for 2 months old is around 1hr 15 mins including feeding, and it looks like she is doing just under this which is perhaps just what she needs. EASY is a routine based on LO's needs so if she isn't ready to move to a longer time between E yet then I would say that's probably fine.  I think many breast fed babies are still feeding on-demand at this age.
Would you like me to move your post over to the breast feeding board for some more experienced support with this? It may help to hear from other mums who are on-demand bf and on an EASY that is less than 3hrs.

Hi there,

We've been on approximately 2hr EASY since DD2 was born too.  I think the issue for us is/was more short naps than actually needing to feed every 2hrs.  She just likes and asks to feed when she wakes up.  She can and has easily gone longer between feeds eg if we have apop'd a longer nap in the baby carrier or (sometimes) car when we're out.

I'm trying to work on longer naps now.. (Not easy..) to try and space things out a bit and have slightly fewer (but longer) naps per day,

Sorry, that's not much advice but just wanted to let you know we're in a v similar situation.  dD2 is happy and healthy though and nights are pretty good so I'm not too worried iyswim.

How does your dd fall asleep for naps?  Independently or do you help her?  I wonder if extending naps would be the best place to start to try and space things out for you.
DD1 - 8 years old
DD2 - 5 years old

You may also wish to try wake to sleep about 20 mins into the nap if the A time extension doesn't help on its own.
