Are hour and 15 minute naps UT naps for 6 month old?
« on: April 15, 2014, 00:33:48 am »
Hi All,

I was on here a few weeks ago dealing with my 5 month old who was catnapping like crazy and killing me! I bumped his A times out quite a bit and his naps went from 30-45 minutes to about 2 hours for both morning and afternoon. This was working wonderfully and now all of a sudden his naps are shortening again. I read somewhere on this site that a nap that is an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes could be an UT nap. Other areas indicate that a child his age might only nap for an hour at a time. I just want to be sure these naps are truly "restorative". He sleeps for 11.5-12 hours per night, is it possible that he only needs 2.5 hours of daytime sleep due to his long night sleep? My concern is that his wake times are already on the high end for his age, he is 25 weeks and he is A times are about 3 hours in the morning (before being put down), and about 3.15 in the afternoon (before being put down). I just had to bump these out again as the 30-45 minute naps started creeping in again on the morning rounds and it was making him miserable all day (so I know that reducing the A times won't help this issue). He is now back to longer naps.

BUT, the question is......will two 1.15 naps per day cut it? I am attempting to lengthen them if possible of course but curious to see if there are any thoughts on this before racking my brain all over again. I don't know if its worth mentioning but he is on the big side, around 25 pounds. Which means he is not super active physically. I do try to make sure he does what he can but he's not even rolling yet let alone mobile. I keep thinking once he starts to do more physically that this will help him sleep better, I know this was the case with my first son.

Thanks in advance!

Some LOs just do 1hr15/20 mins. It's two sleep cycles so IMO restorative. You can try adding. A little A time to see if one lengthens and if so then it's prob a touch UT x

Hi My LO is 27 weeks and we are having 2 naps of 1.20 he does perfectly fine tbh and will do his full A time of 3.15 min no problem. But u can add another 10 min to your A time just to see if it will make any difference.

My dd1 very often did 1 hr 20 naps also. Like your ds she slept great at night and maybe not as much as others during the day.
