Any ideas on this??
« on: May 01, 2014, 06:12:39 am »
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this....
My DD is on 4 hour easy and is 6 months old next week on the 11th. Have recently had some issues with cot gymnastics and like which I think is now under control as we upped her A times and she seemed to go straight off to sleep again. Last couple of days have been a little strange though.

Yesterday she took 2 lovely naps of around 1hr 45mins it got to five pm when I usually try for a catnap and she generally goes to sleep no worries. I put her in bed and she didnt cry but started after a few minutes and then got very upset. It got to 5:40 and I gave up and got her up. Made her dinner and had her in bed asleep by around 6:30. Slept through as usual to 7 ish maybe a bit before.

Today I had trouble with her second nap, she was up for pretty much exactly 2.5 hours and about 25 mins later she woke up really upset, I resettled and thought she would go back to sleep. I went in to check every ten or so minutes and she was still awake! What I'm confused about is that if this was an OT nap she would have gone back off to sleep, but she just played quietly in her cot until I got her up at three.

Her morning nap at the moment is great, she would probably sleep up to 3 hours if I let her, which is my other question...should I just let her sleep as long as she wants? She does tend to take longer naps so we could push for 2 naps instead of three but I dont want to do this unless she can handle it. I was going to try this today but that strange 25 minute nap occurred. Yesterday obviously she did not take the nap so I just hoped for the best as she was on an A of about 3.5 hours by then!

Should her A times be more?? Or maybe it is too early to be thinking about 2 naps instead of three?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated....TIA x

Not at all.  6mos is prime time for switching to 2 naps.  :) Once they are doing 3 hr A time, you're most of the way to 2 naps.  It's just a matter of dropping the CN.  If you get to the point where she's waking from the second nap late enough that you feel you would really be squeezing a CN in, then you can just drop the CN and go straight to BT, though maybe a shade earlier than before.

WRT to letting her sleep as long as she wants for the AM nap, that's entirely up to you.  What you don't want to happen, not yet anyway, is that she sleeps so well in the morning that she doesn't want to go down for a PM nap.  At 6 mos, you'd probably be in for some serious OT! I'd be on the side of waking her up when it's time for lunch (or whatever is next on your agenda).  But bear in mind that at 6 mos, with 3 hr + A times, you're no longer in 4 hr EASY territory.

Have a look at this from the FAQs.

Hi Weaver, thanks for replying :-)

She is not near enough to 3 hours A yet it's more like 2 hrs 15-20 at the moment. Her nap lengths are usually good so we could almost get there but she is having trouble again today with her second nap. She sleeps beautifully for morning nap and as I said I have to wake her. She has woken again today 25 mins in though not upset this time. I can hear her just talking now but hopefully she will go back to sleep. I put her down at 2 hrs 20 and she went straight to sleep. She has been a bit of a grump last couple of days which is unlike her, crying for no reason I can figure out.
Do you think she could OT at this point of the day?? When she's had a really good nap and reasonable wake time?

Thanks again :-)

You have mentioned grump and i thought id post, i dont think its OT but it is wonder week time,some LOs, mine included are very sensitive to these changes.

I dont know if u noticed any of the below in ur LO?

Cries more, more often or longer;
Asks for more attention;
Has mood-swings;
Is not pleased with many things.
Doesnt want to be changed or dressed

Otherwise if she wakes 25 mins in hAppy i would say she is UT.

Hi Viktoria, thanks for having a look at my post :-).

We are in the middle of leap 5 so it could probably be that. She handles wonder weeks fairly well, but this one might be making her a bit upset. Last WW it was 45 min naps for a few weeks.

That's why I was a bit confused as when I was putting her down for a nap there was little to no protest and she is asleep within 2-5 minutes and if it was OT I would be finding it harder to get her off to sleep.

I think there is only another week of this WW so we will see what new tricks she can do once its over! :-)

Thanks for your help, minor issues but its nice to hear from others :-)
