Wake baby from nap?
« on: May 06, 2014, 10:29:17 am »
Hi,

My little one has since 5.5 months started to sleep longer than his 30-45 min catnaps.
He is now 6 months and I wake him after two hours of napping. Should I really be waking him up or leave him to sleep? And at 6 months, is 2 hours too long?

Cheers

Hi

What does your day look like? I can only wish mine slept this long.
Does him having a long nap affect his nights at all? For example do you get long night wakings?

Example of my day not including meals. He is on 4 hour easy
An ideal day would look like this.

7.00 up and feed
9.00 nap (can last between 1.5hr or longer and if 2hrs, I wake him)
Feed after nap
13.00 nap (again 1.5hr or longer)
15.00 feeding solids
17.00 catnap
Aiming for ~19.00 bedtime

He then wakes up about 10-11pm. I give him a feed. I'm ok with this wake up as I treat it as a DF even though he is waking himself up.

He is still not night weaned and next wake up is usually anytime between 2-4am. And I feed him and he sleeps till morning. Last night was different as I suspect he pooed at 2.30 and woke up from it. I wasn't too sure so didn't check his nappy but he was easy to put down again. He woke up at 3.30 and this time he really smelled and I changed him and BF him and he slept till morning.

He has always been a terrible sleeper up till the week we moved him to his own room around Easter when he was 5.5 months and seemed to have outgrown the catnaps.

I always woke mine up, my rule was never to let them sleep through a feed.  HTH.

Tbh your routine looks pretty good and the nights not bad at all, i wouldnt change anything so if u wake him after 2 hours continue doing so. I suspect he might need an increase of A time at some point, but whilst everything works i would just leave it as it is.
