Cluster feeding at 7 weeks
« on: May 17, 2014, 04:41:32 am »
My 7 week old has been wanting to cluster feed lately, especially 5-9pm like every 1.5-2 hrs, sometimes even every hour.  Does this mean something, like growth spurt? Maybe will start to sleep longer at night? Currently on a good night he will sleep 10pm-2:30am, wake at around 5:30-6am.  He will sleep right after feed.  The other night he woke up exactly every 3 hours for a feeding. Also, he's been only feeding on one side and will not wake up after diaper change for the second breast.

This is a new thing in the last few days.

Sounds very normal to me. It could be a growth spurt, it's also maybe related to the lower supply in the evening that most women experience as they have been busy all day. I found an extra drink around 3-4pm helped, as did a rest around that time. You may have noticed you have a lot of milk in the first feed after midnight, this is all just normal variation in milk volume across a given day.
