How to extend a nap?
« on: May 26, 2014, 21:27:07 pm »
Hi there
I have a 16 week old baby, who naps in the morning after A (4 hour EASY) then wakes after about an hour and is awake for 39 mins before needing to "top up" her nap, the same applies in the afternoon too? How can I extend the nap if this is even possible? TIA

Hi Clairems

Can you post your easy so we can have a look how long your LO is awake for. Generally for babies this young you would use shush pat to resettle. If your LO is sleeping for an hour I would say that you could add another 10 mins to your awake time to see if that will lengthen the nap.

Hi

Just to make sure that im reading this correctly your LO wakes at 6.30 and first nap is at 8, so that is 1.30 A time. From what you have posted your LO sleeps through the first sleep cycle so not a problem with transitioning here. Generally babies at 4 months have A time of 1.45-2 hours, try extending the first A time by 10 mins and hold for 2-3 days and see if that gets u a longer nap, if u get a longer nap then increase the second A time two. Let us know how you get on
