Problems getting 7 week old to nap
« on: June 07, 2014, 17:06:59 pm »
Hi. I'm having lots of problems getting my 7 week old to nap during the day. She quickly gets overtired and very grouchy so I've been trying to read her cues and act on the first yawn etc but I'm not having much success. She'll fall asleep in my arms or papoose after a lot of rocking/bobbing/ jiggling but wakes when I put her down. When I try to let her settle herself she cries until I have to pick her up because she's becoming distressed (her cry escalates very quickly!)
Everything is made harder by the fact she has colic so evenings are horrendous but once she is down she sleeps for decent stretches at night and resettles herself after the middle of the night feed. The Dr also says she has reflux.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi there! Reflux can be just brutal for these LOs! I have been grateful that neither of mine struggled with it but I have heard horror stories of those who have. What is being done for the reflux? Do you have a good quality comfortable carrier? I would go into survival mode if I were you. Get LO to sleep wherever and however you can until she is older and you are sure the discomfort is gone. Hang in there, it will get better! Want to have a look here too? Colic, Reflux, & Crying

Yes she has been given gaviscon by the dr. Because of her weight I used 1 sachet in her milk but she seemed much worse the day after so I'm now giving her half a sachet each feed. We've got a good papoose and she seems to fall asleep in it in the morning but not in the evening. She falls asleep in our arms but wakes up in pain until it all settles down by about 10 usually. We've raised the top of her mattress and are keeping her upright after feeds.Thank you for the link.
