How much sleep does your 2.5-3yo get? (No nap)
« on: July 28, 2014, 18:41:25 pm »
Just trying to gauge what's normal in terms of sleep totals for LOs who drop their nap relatively early.  We were averaging around 12h in 24 or just over throughout the 1-0 (dropped nap completely at 29 months) now it seems closer to 11.5h.  Can't decide if she's a bit OT but coping ok, mostly STTN, or whether it's developmental.  We have been having a few more tantrums than usual but that could be anything!

As you know we are still in middle of 1-0 with dd and she's doing 11.5-12.5h on nnds the latter end only recently as she gets used to nnds. My ds is 4 (and I always thought lsn) and he needs at least 11-11.5h ons so I would think at just over 2.5yo J may be getting ot. Could you try ebt to see if she tacks on?

M naps probably 2-3 times a week now but her total sleep in 24 hours is about 12-12.5 I think x

DS was on around 11hrs from age 2. His choice, not mine!

My DD is 3 next month and has been nap-free for a few weeks now.  So a bit older than J, but was nap dropping for many months beforehand too.  At first she was pulling huge nights (like 14hrs), but as she's regulated it's now 12.5/13.  She's tended towards being HSN though so if J is average or low she's probably doing ok.  Maybe half birthday related?

E hasn't had a nap other than in a car on a fairly long journey for a few months now (except a period of illness) and she tends to get 11.5/12 hours in 24. She too is seeming more tantrum-prone and I have been wondering if she is low on sleep for her needs at the moment. It's difficult though as I can't really get her to sleep earlier.

Cadan was high sleep needs and when we dropped the nap he slept 13.5hrs from 2.5 to 3yo2mo. That was when we put Colby in his room and he started being woken earlier in the morning but I think it coincided with a drop in sleep needs too. He still sleeps 12hrs some nights at 4.5yo.

Colby is 3 next month and he dropped the nap completely about 8 wks ago. He gets anything from 10.5 to 12hr15. Most often he gets about 11hr15-30. I suspect he would do 12hr nights most nights if he weren't being woken by big Bro most mornings. ::) He was always low sleep needs I think.

Just over 2.5 DS dropped his nap and I think he did around 11.5 to 12hr nights which gradually lengthened to a more regular 12hr but at 3yo he was doing 13hrs, I think it was the birthday development increased his sleep need, it lasted a while then back to 12hrs.

Lily started regularly doing NNDs at 2 and was completely nap free a bit before 2.5 and she averaged about 11.5 - 12 hours then too.  In fact her overall sleep needs have hovered between 11 and 12 hours since then and only recently dropped again.  I tend to find she'll do a few weeks of shorter nights,  and then a few weeks of sleeping more and has done since she stopped napping really.

Thanks everyone, it seems she might not be totally out of the normal range.  That said, she had a NW the other night for a few mins at 4am, then slept in until 7.30am from 6.45pm BT.  So a shorter day yesterday and STTN for 12h.  Maybe there was a bit of OT hanging around but fingers crossed she's over it now.
