Switch from Aptamil to Hipp in windy baby?
« on: September 23, 2014, 18:10:29 pm »
Hello, my dd is 6 mo and is half breast fed half formula. She has aptamil and is troubled by wind at night waking her up and really troubling her. A friend recommended Hipp formula as her baby was windy with aptamil and better with Hipp. We live in the UK. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is Hipp good? Or perhaps an alternative milk? That's for your help

What type of bottles are you using? It can be the type of bottle that's uses as much as the formula.

All first infant formulas are very similar really, there's no one that's better than others as each baby reacts differently. It could also be something you are eating causing wind as much as the formula is.

Have you tried Infacol or Dentinox drops to help the wind? What flow teat are you using too?

Hi Laura thanks for your reply. We're using tommee tippee bottles having their normal ones with the little valve in the teat for air release and also the 'anti colic' ones with the purple tube down the middle, but haven't found any difference using the anti colic one. I did buy a dr brown bottle at about 4 months but she didn't take to it well and didn't want to suck on it so didn't use it. She's on size 3 teat (I only found out about about 4 months that I was supposed to change the size so hopefully I'm on the correct one now).
She's always been a windy baby and is much better than she was but as she'll be 7months old on the 1st I thought that the wind would have settled down by now. It only troubles her at night and I think only really bothered following her night feed which at the moment is around 3am. I keep her upright for a good 20-30minutes after the feed and do my best to get a burp up- sometimes successful sometimes not, but even if I do get a burp they are not as good as the day time ones. Do you think it's normal to have wind like this at near 7 months, no one else's  babies seem to have it when I ask. I feel like I'm missing something and if I did this one thing it would help her.

Hi! I had exactly the same with DS but it was bottom wind he struggled with. He would only be troubled at night and it would always be around 3am too!!! He would be grunting and kicking legs and sounded in pain. He too was on Aptamil and I switched to Hipp, he now has no wind at all at night!!! Give it a go, I read a lot about people saying Aptamil made their LO's windy and Hipp  being kinder on their tummy's, plus it's organic.  Hope it helps! X

Hi *beed* thanks for the message. Yes it's bottom end wind that my lo suffers with at night too. We've switched over to Hipp and so far so much better... Fingers crossed it continues!
