should ds be sitting on his own?
« on: November 27, 2014, 04:28:11 am »
Even though he was 6 weeks early everything seems to be coming right on track as far as milestones. He isn't sitting up on his own...He can for a few seconds but his back isn't strong enough to really hold himself up. He isn't too fond of the bumbo chair either. He rolled from back to belly the other day.

I wouldn't worry too much hun, all LO do things at different ages as I'm sure you know. My DS didn't really sit until about 6 months but then walked at 11 months x

It sounds to me like he is doing perfectly well with the rolling, it is still quite early to be sitting , although some LOs would do so, not all do by this time so I wouldn't worry Hun. From what I have read anything from four months to nearly eight months for independent sitting is normal. :)

6 weeks early is a lot.  He is doing a lot of catching up developmental growth and sitting isn't really a priority at this stage.  Please do not use the Bumbo seat until he has head control and back muscle tone to support himself in it.  Let nature take its time.  He is doing amazingly well in rolling.  This will also strengthen his back muscles and control.  HTH xx

Agreed, definitely would t be worrying at this stage.  DS is six months and has no interest in sitting!

No need to worry.
My lo is almost walking and she still is not sitting up. Instead of sitting up she`ll roll on her tummy, get into a crawling position and gets up like that, or finds other ways to get to where she wants

Thanks yall you have put me at ease. I know all kids are different but dd was always so independent and nosey that she was always early or at the youngest age for most milestones and she's all I have to go off of. But he has great head control but we will just keep up with tummy time to build those muscles!!
