More sleep
« on: January 02, 2015, 06:54:54 am »
To be honest my son's sleeping requirements have always been less than my daughter, he's just turned 2 and she has 12.5 to 13 hours day and he has 11.5 total! Just wondered if there's anything we can do he has 1.5 hours nap in day. I have tried changing time of this as early as 12 and as late as 13.30 he is woken up by us and always is up for 3 we cut his hap bout 3 months ago from 1 hour 45. At nap time he goes atraight to sleep no dummy just comforter still in a cot. At bad time he can mess about singing etc but can settle as late as 20-20.15 he is up usually at 6.15 we have never had any later than 6.30 we will try to ignore him till at least 6.30 but generally wakes up happy. Is he having enough sleep? Any ideas of us getting just a little more sleep as it's becoming 6 every day now! My daughter was never b4 7 think we was spoilt. He has numerous food allergies egg milk and but but since bout 18 months now we are on top of them he generally doesn't wKe in the night

He sounds right on track to me! It might just be that he needs less sleep than your daughter does.

My DS was on 11hrs total at age 2, including a nap. He started dropping the nap at age 2.

You might see a better night after the nap has gone. We only had 10.5 - 11hr nights from birth until the nap was gone, now my DS does 12hr nights which is bliss!

It might also be an idea to start thinking about either a gro clock or lights on a timer to slowly teach him to stay quiet after he wakes in the morning and entertain himself with a toy or book.  Mine has had lights on a timer which has worked great, when the lights turn on he is allowed to get his book, and he reads in bed for 20 mins before getting up.  Whilst you might never get him to stay asleep until 7am you might be able to settle on something like a 6.30am WU with a 30 min quiet play before both kids get up properly at 7am.  Might be something to work towards.

My DD is a little younger (21mo) and we only get 10/10.5 hr nights with a 1.5hr nap. I always wonder if it's enough and should I be capping the nap but haven't as yet.

I am hopeful as creations says of longer nights once she's stopped napping.
