Hi all,

First of all I'd like to thank the moderators of the forum, it was a huge support for both of us my ds and myself during the last 5,5 months.

And looks like it's time for us to move to 2 naps though I'm not really sure how to do that. My son turns 6 months the next week and the last week or so we're having troubles with the 2 first naps, they're getting shorter and shorter. The thing is our night sleep is on the shortest side as well.

Here is our day in EASY format before his naps started to get shorter:

WU: ~6/6:20 a.m ( I used to leave him in his cot until about 7 since he is happy babbling)
E: ~7:00
S1: ~9:00/9:15 - 10:30/10:45 (He used to have about 3 hrs A after the night sleep in the last couple of weeks and about 2:30-2:45 A after S1)
E: ~11:00
S2: ~13:00/13:15 - 14:30/14:45 (The last few days either S1 or S2 is about an hour, 1:10 and impossible to resettle, the second one is still 1,5 hrs)
E: ~15:00
CN: somewhere bw 17:00 and 18:00 (Usually its 30 min in the car or stroller and he used to be tired by that time)
BT routine starts bw 18:30 and 19:00: bath and BF, asleep in his cot 19:30-20:00
STTN

Total night sleep: about 10 - 10,5 hours
Day time sleep: 3 - 3,5 hours (the last few days its 3 hrs or less)

I was trying to make our day shorter by putting him down later but he used to wake at the same time, resettling techniques doesn't seem to work with him in the morning.

Sometimes recently he started to wake up at about 5 a.m but after 20 min babbling and my shushing I could put him back to sleep until his usual WU.

A month or so ago when one of our 2 long naps was getting shorter I was increasing the A time and it worked but I don't think I should do that now since it's long enough for his age I guess... So I assume it's the time for us to move to 2 naps but I can't tweak how to do it with our pretty long day. No way for him to wake up later or put him down earlier, he'll just be rolling over in his cot until his usual sleep time at 19:30-20:00. Do you have any ideas what should I do to consolidate those 3 naps into 2?

Thanks a lot for your help!
Zina

Hi there and a formal welcome to BW! ;D

You're right, your LO is showing all the signs he is ready to move to 2 naps. And the best way to do that is by what you've already been doing... gradually add 10-15min to the A times (especially the second one, as it's definitely on the short side) every few days until you're getting 2 full naps again. This should naturally get rid of the CN. You may need to bring BT earlier, so the A time at the end of the day doesn't get too long.

Have a read through this link for some more good tips and insights... All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months
