Could my 5 month old be ready for 3/2???
« on: January 15, 2015, 21:15:25 pm »
My LO will be 5 months in 1.5 weeks and shes always taking 40min naps but i was always able to resettle her but recently she was not easy to resettle at all, i was having to APOP after EVERY 40mins so i upped her A time to 2hr 15/20mins. She falls asleep quick and is starting to sleep past the 40mins or is easily resettled if she wakes.

However by the time is CN is meant to happen i know it will interfere with her BT so i have been capping it, but these past few nights she has really struggled to get to sleep at BT (shes put down in her cot and she goes off to sleep herself but needs her dummy).

Here is her routine

E 7am
A
S 9.15-10.45

E 11am
A
S 1-2.30

E 2.45
A
S 5-5.20

E 6.45
A
S 7/7.30 usually but struggling at atm

Would you think she could drop it? She woke this morning at 5am and was wide awake so i APOP to get her back to sleep!
Im not sure how to work out her routine for her at all!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! X

Yes, it does look like your LO is starting the 3-2 transition. The struggle at BT and early morning wake are classic signs. Have a read through this link and let us know if you have any questions... All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months

One thing I notice is that he CN comes after 2.5hr A, rather than the 2h15min you're doing for the other naps. Since it only has to be a short nap to get through to BT, you can often do it a little earlier, if your LO is willing to go down a bit UT. It's also quite normal for the day to become 13hr long (so 8pm BT) before a nap drop, while you lengthen the A times and still fit in a CN. You can also APOP the CN and do just 10-15min to get you through to BT, if needed.

HTH!

Thank you for your reply!
Yet again tonight was another struggle for bedtime. I let her go to sleep after 1hr 50mins A time for the capnap (as she only slept 1hr for previous nap) and she slept for 40mins so im guessing that isnt going to work as she still struggled!

The only thing i dont get is when to do her feeds?
Can i go 4.5hour between feeds now?

You could try it. The feeds at the end of the day might be closer together then. Is she BF or FF? If BF, you might want to offer a top up feed either 45min-1hr after the main feed or 20-30min before a nap to see her through to the next main feed. Does that make sense?

She is FF.
We have started solids so she gets them 1 hour after her bottle so hopefully that will be ok for her!

So, with FF and a bit of solids, I'm guessing she can go longer than 4hr between feeds. Good luck, let us know how you get on. Also, feel free to post in the 3-2 support thread, if needed. :)  Anyone want to talk about the 3-2 Nap transition? Part 2
