Breastfeeding in public - no cake!
« on: February 09, 2015, 18:53:45 pm »
Weird title I know!  But am feeling half-amused and half-annoyed about something that happened today.  Went to a cafe as it was getting near DSs feed time.  Lovely guy working there carried my tray, chatted with me and played a bit with DS, then went back to get on with his job.  I started feeding DS and a short time later the guy reappeared with a tray full of cake samples which he proceeded to offer to everyone in the cafe - except me!  So I guess maybe he felt uncomfortable or thought I might be if he spoke to me (though why I am not sure as I was feeding in the middle of a busy cafe in a shopping centre...).  But still!

But it got me thinking.....what's the funniest/strangest thing that's happened to you while feeding in public?

Sorry but I had to lol!  Were you tempted to ask for your sample?!?!  Once I was out to eat my DH the boys and my parents. I don't remember how old he was but I was nursing G and he fell asleep so I put the boob away and he continued. The waiter came over to see if we were doing ok and saw G sleeping and said 'man I wish I could be doing what he is'. Well no one else at the table realized he was sleeping and not nursing so they were all  :o it was hilarious!  I bet the poor waiter would have been so embarrassed had he realized!!

LOL at both of these! And such a shame you didn't get any cake Katherine  >:( he must have been embarrassed I guess, or unsure if you wanted to interact with others  :-\

I don't think I have any funny stories about public BFing but last weekend H reached down my top and pulled out a breast pad which she then waved around all pleased with herself in front of mil and DH's aged aunts and uncles ::)  :-[

Okay my best was not totally in public...but I had visitors over after E was born and E was bobbing on and off when S comes over, grabs my boob, lifts E's head up and pops her on! Crazy thing was it worked!

Lol! I'm betting he didn't want to get too close and get a better view of anything on show. I find people often come up to talk to me at my playgroup when i am feeding and then apologise when they realise what i am doing.  It's like they wouldn't have come and bothered me if they had known  ::)

You never know - sometimes people have been "trained" by relatives with very nosy babies who get distracted when someone talks to Mom.

My weirdest experience was out with the family, feeding dd2 in a sandwich shop, when a man in his 50's came over and started gushing (rather loudly) about how wonderful it was what I was doing, and how great for dd, and on, and on...I really didn't want all that attention.

Then he handed my dh a flyer about joining his commune!
