A medicine and BFing qn
« on: February 18, 2015, 15:56:25 pm »
Does anyone know, if I took immodium plus (two tablets) around 1pm, will I be ok to bf H around 6.45pm?

I've read conflicting advice about this medicine and BFing, but can't find how long it stays in your system for.

Sorry you didn't get a reply in time. What did you do?  I would have asked your pharmacist.

Thanks Ali

I fed her in the end. Some sites said it was ok and some said to check with GP/pharmacist.  Didn't have an opportunity to check though but thought that since it was about 5hrs since I took the medicine, and H is now 1 (not a tiny NB), she'd be ok.

If it ever arises again - one of the breastfeeding support groups has a pharmacist you can speak to.

Off to find out who...

It's the Breastfeeding Network. Lovely pharmacist will email you, or talk to you on the phone. :)

That's good to know.

Fwiw, I would have done the same Cath.

Hope you are feeling better.

TBH I think the vast majority of meds are tagged 'don't take when BFing' or 'talk to pharmacist' because they haven't been tested, iyswim.  It's a precaution.

That was what was in my memory but I was going to double check first. I used to call for advice after I had dye for scans etc, and the advice they gave was always far more up to date than what a doctor had said.

Thank you for the pharmacist details.  I'll try there if this ever arises again (but I hope not!)
