Start next EASY cycle if cant extend nap??
« on: March 04, 2015, 01:00:25 am »
Hello,

This is my first post on BW and I am a first time mom to an 11 wk old. I have read lots of sleep books and really like the BW method. I have been working to follow an eat-wake-sleep schedule with my LO since about 8 weeks and just started BW sleep tips about a week ago, after reading the book. Recently my LO has not been taking full naps (which I have seen throughout the BW posts is rather common for this age). I have tried shh/pat and gotten her to go back down for some but sometimes she is just up after 45mins to an hour. My question is if I just can't get her to go back to sleep should I let her be up and hang out until the next feeding time or do I start the next cycle of EASY? I know the thought process is for them to wake and eat so they have the most energy for a full feeding but I don't want to feed too early either. I am exclusively breastfeeding.

Ex. Today she ate at 10am, down at 11 and woke at 11:45. I tried pat/shh and she went back to sleep only for 15mins. I tried again but she was up. I let her lay in her crib unswaddled just looking around at her mobile and toys until her 12:30 feeding (I am doing 2.5hr schedule until we get solid on it and then move to 3hr to ensure she gets enough milk during the day). She wasn't hungry yet otherwise I would have obviously fed her at noon. She ate at 12:30, we played, and then I took her into her room for the nap routine around 1:30. By the time I swaddled her and started to shh/pat she seemed to be OT because by then she had been up 1.5hrs vs her normal 1hr to 1.25 hrs. Nap routine isn't long, sometimes a book, but usually diaper change, white noise, a song 3 times, swaddle and down for nap.

Not sure if I need to change anything but any suggestions would be helpful!! I have been racking my brain about this and wasn't able to find the answer on other posts I looked through. Thank you so much!!

If you can't resettle her you can get her up and have some A time before the next feed. So you would be doing more of a EASAEAS :)

After a short nap, you should keep the A time very low key and reduce the time before the next nap by around 15 minutes

Hth!
