hyper in crib

Hi,my LO used to self settle. She is 5.5 months old and has an awake time of 2 hours, which i think needs extending b/c she just plays and gets more and more hyper in bed until she's overtired. I resorted to rocking her the last week and now she won't self settle at all.
My question...how do you sleep train a baby that just plays in bed? i can't stay in the room b/c she just gets more excited. I end up picking her up and holding her tight after 30 min of playing and she falls asleep, bah!
Should i extend her awake time first for a few days and then try to re-train her to self settle?
Cheers!

Hi there, it sounds to me like a little UT I would increase A time by 10 mins every couple of days and you might find she self settles a bit easier.

Average A times- BOOKMARK ME!!
