BLW at 7 months?
« on: March 30, 2015, 12:46:51 pm »
I have been weaning DD2 since 5 months she is 7 months now. But I was thinking of starting on BLW as I believe it helps them become better eaters when older. I am quite scared about it, at the moment she will happily eat a rusk and wedges of watermelon but I don't really know what else to offer and how quick to progress. Do you just stick to veg and fruit for a few weeks or just go for it and offer everything?

Have you seen this? Baby Led Weaning support thread #12

I am definitely no expert as more of a traditional weaning fan, but since DS has decided spoons are for losers ::) BLW is kind of being forced on me!  At 7 months you can offer anything I would say, except the usual things you would avoid before a year of age.  So chunks of soft fruit, veg (roast is good), chunks of meat to gum, pieces of cheese, spoons loaded with yoghurt/porridge (slightly cheating on the BLW thing....), pasta spirals, well-cooked omelet cut into strips etc etc etc.....loads of ideas on the support thread and finger foods threads :)

What do you mean by starting BLW? Stopping purées and only offering finger food? Even traditional weaning would recommend offering finger foods at 7mo alongside puree or mashed foods.

The idea with BLW is you pretty much just offer what you are eating as long as it isn't too salty. I wouldn't limit yourself to fruit and veg,  just offer what you have.

Thanks I'll have a wee look at that thread.  Yes I mean stopping purees altogether and just going finger foods. We have spoon battles everyday so think this is a better option x
