9 week old takes 20min naps--what am I doing wrong??
« on: July 29, 2015, 12:46:06 pm »
For the past 2-3 weeks now, my 9 week old hasn't been napping much.

He will fall asleep for 15-25 mins then wake up thrashing/crying. I try to rock him back to asleep but it doesn't work.

And then at 6-7pm, he'll pass out for 6-8 hours. (For example: yesterday he took three 20 minute naps and then at 8pm, fell asleep until 4am!)

I'm worried about him. I've tried everything.

I create a dark, quiet environment for nap time. I swaddle him. White noise. Pacifier.

It's been in the mid-high 80s here, and we have no AC but I do have plenty of fans. So I don't know if the problem is the heat...I have taken him on car rides and blasted the AC to cool him down but he doesn't sleep in his car seat, he just cries.

I'm taking him to the pediatrician today for his 2-month shots, so I'm definitely going to ask about it but I wanted advice from other mommies first (I don't have any mommy friends)

What am I doing wrong??

Hi Hon- Welcome to the boards- can you post up your rouutine so we can see what is happening throughout the day? Set it out like so below:

E: 7.00am
A: 7.am-8.30
S: 8-30-8.50

etc across the day.

It is possible your child is going through a Wonder Week. They are like growth spurts but are developmental 'leaps' a baby goes through and can cause general fussiness, crying, clinging behaviour and crabbiness (3 Cs) for 1-2 weeks. Babies experience their second 'leap' around 8 weeks http://www.thewonderweeks.com/mental-leap-2/
