Weaning from last night feed
« on: July 31, 2015, 02:14:18 am »
Hi Ladies,
We're struggling lately with breakfast feed. Meaning we actually don't have any:/

My DS is 6 months. I supplemented one of his day feeds with formula, and we're introducing solids. I DF him at 11. For the past 1,5 weeks he started refusing his feed at 7. So I tried 7:30, 8, 8:30 with no luck. At 9 I'm doing solids and this is going pretty bad I think too.

I think we could dropp last NF. Am I right?
How do I do it? Do I feed less or move it in time towards 7am?

Thanks

How many feeds is he having in the daytime? Many bf babies need a nightfeed for some time. As for.solids if he isn't keen on it there is no harm in backing off for a bit. Is he on purees or blw?

I give him pureed carrots, zucchini, applesauce, plums warm and some jar desserts from baby jars cold. I don't have access to a lot of organic stuff so decided to go with that.

The feeds are pretty regular. So far we do:
8:00 teaspoon of solids plus some water from sippy cup but only the amount he can drink himself, so very little. Sippy is going great. He is so interested in that!
11:00 180ml-210ml formula
3:30 BF
6:30 BF
11:00 DF BF
3:30 NF DF

The thing is our first EASY during the day is only solids so almost no food at all. His first true feeding is at 11:/ Could that be a reason to drop the feed or not really?

Today I gave him one breast instead of two at NF. He woke up at 5 and fed him again. He seemed needing it to me. I am so confused:/

Seeing my ped on Monday, will ask him too.

Are you going straight to solids for breakfast because he doesn't want a milk feed? It sounds like he still needs that full night feed if he woke up earlier hungry, but then if he did have a morning milk feed perhaps the 3:30  feed might not be necessary.

Thats my puzzle! I dont know if its a good idea to transition from 3 am feed to 7 am (breakfast)?! If its possible and good for my baby.

And how do I do it?:/

Yes, we're doing only solids at 8. Today we actually didnt, but i gave him solids at noon and he seemed to like it better.

Any advice?

Will he take a feed in the am if you don't do solids? If lunchtime works better for them then I would do that for sure, solids at this age are more for fun and learning about food & eating than nutrition really, the bulk of their diet still needs to be bm or formula until one year.

He wont take breast but today took 150 ml formula, which is not bad at all.
He started waking at 6 though, so if i feed him at 4, 6 is really close. I dont think i can stretch it that much either:(
