Just Starting EASY, what to do with 5am wake ups??
« on: August 18, 2015, 20:07:35 pm »
Hi,

Hope this is the right place to post, it's my first time! I have a lovely DD who is EBF and 14 weeks old. I made the mistake of feeding to sleep every day/night up until the last few days when it felt right to try and put her onto a 3 hour EASY. She's doing so well and sleeping from 7pm-4/5am with a DF at 10/11pm. I'm just wondering what to do with her at 4/5am as I'd like to try and encourage the start of the day a little later than that. I've been PU/PD until 6.30 and starting the day then or should I be feeding her when she wakes? I'm not sure that she's hungry, I think she's waking with wind but am I expecting too much of such a little baby still??

Just to say that she absolutely refuses the dummy, much to my dismay!

TIA for any advice.

Hi there and welcome to BW, you will get loads of great help and support on here. It sounds to me like you are doing a great job and that your DD has responded really well to EASY. I would be tempted to feed her at the 4.30/5.00am wake up and see if that settled her back down. She is doing very well to go from her DF until that time at 14 weeks anyway I think. My two only dropped their 2/3am NF at about 12 weeks and it didn't go completely for a lot longer, just got pushed later and later, which is what your DD is doing by the sounds of it. So any waking before say 7am at this stage I would treat as a NW and just feed and resettle. How does that sound? Do you think that would work?

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to respond & I agree but have this niggly feeling that because she's waking up to pop off and then will drop off again for a while with PU/PD that she could make it through! I don't want to risk it though just in case she is hungry so think I will try the 4/5 feed.

Thanks again :)

I know what you mean hun and it is so tempting to try to see if you can push the feed later. It really depends on how easy you are finding it to resettle your DD I guess. To me if she is taking a while then I would always feed at her young age to ensure that she isn't hungry. I always think if a quick feed gets LO back to sleep quickly then that is better than hours of trying to resettle. You could always try shush pat to resettle at first and if that doesn't work then feed? What do you think?
