Almost 11mths..how many feeds?
« on: October 19, 2015, 08:42:00 am »
hi
How many breastfeeds should I be offering LO?  She'll sometimes ask for it, but she's mostly too busy.

Normally I offer 4 feeds and one massive feed at night.  I'm noticing she is having less (very little interest) in the mid morning and afternoon feeds.  Is she self weaning already? Is this ok? She'll teeny tiny on about 20% for weight.  I don't want her to lost weight.

We were still on 4 daytime feeds at this age with both of my boys but I know some people drop to 3 around this time. DD is still having 5 daytime feeds but is not quite 10mo yet.

I'd just keep offering and follow her lead. She is very young to be self-weaning so it is very unlikely but possible. More likely she is just distracted with other fun stuff to be doing.

Do you feed her in a quiet room or is it usually in a room with other kids who she could be distracted by? My DD doesn't feed well when there are others in the room.

At 11 mos DD1 dropped from 4 to 3 bfs/day.  She didn't have any nfs. Like your DD, she was just not interested in/too distracted for the daytime feeds, (so we switched one to water+small snack) but she fed well at WU in the morning, and at BT.

Soon after 12 mos we dropped the other daytime milk feed too (which had swapped to formula as I went back to work) so she got 2 milk feeds/day then (am WU feed was BF, BT feed was cows milk).

The daft thing is, I can't remember what DD2 was doing ::)  but I think it was similar (although she still had 1/2 nfs at 11 mos too).
DD1 - 8 years old
DD2 - 5 years old

My 11 month old has 4 feeds a day. By that age, my DD was on 2 feeds - WU and BT.
