Prolactin levels and breastfeeding
« on: November 19, 2015, 15:38:51 pm »
So I have been struggling with supply since DD was very small. I am doing ok now, in a relatively good place, she is gaining fine. LC suggested testing prolactin when I had blood drawn and I got the results today. The LC is not available this week so I thought maybe someone on here would know what it means?

My prolactin level is 28.

I found this article which shows my levels should be around 50 http://kellymom.com/bf/normal/prolactin-levels/

Just wondering if there is anything I can do about it or not? I'm guessing the prolactin level is more a sign that my supply is not great, which I already know, but can I do something to increase it? I am already on Domperidone 8 pills a day.

Oats? Fenugreek? These both help increase/promote good supply.

A diet rich in protein is great for BFing.  I don't know specifically about the hormone levels but it definitely helps.
